__________2. Ozone layer is located in the mesosphere
which absorbs the sun’s ultra-violet radiation.

Sea Breeze and (greater altitude), air pressure increases.
Land Breeze __________4. People find it difficult to breathe in high
mountains because many
molecules are present on air.
__________5. Temperature is the basis in dividing the
atmosphere into different layers.

ACTIVATE The teacher will ask the following:

1. Do you know why hot air balloon floats in the air?

2. What happens to the air in the surroundings as warm air

rises?

3. Which warms up faster – land or water?

4. What is the difference between sea and land breeze?

The teacher will say: “Let us find out if your answers are
correct as we go on with our activities.”

Show a map, then ask the students:

Which area in the map experience sea breeze and land
breeze? INDICATOR NO. 1

Let’s go back to the questions we used before performing the

activities, let’s find if your answers are correct.

1. Do you know why hot air balloon floats in the air?

2. What happens to the air in the surroundings as warm air

rises?

3. Which warms up faster – land or water?

4. What is the difference between sea and land breeze?

Valuing:
An Agta Dumagat tribe in Basud Camarines Norte, are
known for their livelihoods in traditional hunting and
fishing. How do you think land breeze and sea breeze affect
the fishermen in the locality? INDICATOR NO. 9

EVALUATE 1. Winds blow when air flows from areas of higher to lower
A. altitude
B. elevation
C. pressure
D. temperature

2. _______________ are winds that blow over a limited

location. These winds blow between small low and high
pressure systems.
A. Local Winds
B. Monsoon Winds
C. Harsh Wind
D. Soothing Winds

3. What happens to the molecules of the air as the

temperature drops?
A. they vibrate
B. they move faster
C. they move slowly
D. both a & b
4. When warm air rises, it creates a _____________.
A. low pressure zone
B. high pressure zone
C. moderate pressure zone
D. no pressure zone

5. How does land breeze occur?

A. It occurs when warm air over the land rises and the wind
from the
sea blows toward the land.
B. It happens when the cool wind from the land rushes to the
sea to
replace the rising warm air over the sea.
C. Warmer air from the sea moves toward the land to replace
the rising
cold air over the land.
D. Cold air from the sea sinks and moves toward the land.
PLUS Significance of the Local Winds

During the day, the sea breeze reduces the temperature of the
adjacent coastland since it is a cool and offshore wind. At
night, the adjacent coastland is warm since the breeze is
offshore. How do breeze help the fishermen? What do you
think is the importance of the local winds to the people in the
community especially the fisher folks? Why it is better also
to go swimming at night?

Answer the questions using any of the following that aligns

with your interest or passion. INDICATOR NO. 8

 A jingle or a memorable
short song

Set A - Land Breeze or Sea Breeze

Directions: Study the given figures below. Read each statement in the table and tell whether it describes a sea breeze
or a land breeze. Put a check (√) in the corresponding column
1. Happens during night time
2. A wind moving from the sea towards the land
3. Cool, high pressure air sinks along the sea
4. The land is warmer at daytime
5. A wind moving from the land towards the sea
6. Warm, low pressure air expands and rises over the land
7. Happens during the daytime
8. Cool, high pressure air sinks over the land
9. The land is warmer at nighttime
10. Warm, low pressure air rises and expands over the water

Set B The Land and Sea Breeze

Direction: Complete the diagram by placing the correct word to show the formation
of sea breeze and land breeze.
