Linguaskill - Writing - Part 2 - Formal Email: Public

Transport
Write an email to the Mayor of your city with suggestions on how public transport in
your city can be improved. Includes reasons for your suggestions.

Your email should be written in an appropriate style and should include about 180-200
words for B1; 200-220 words for B2; or more than 220 words for C1.

You should spend a maximum of 25-30 minutes on this task.

Dear Mayor,

I am writing with regard to some problems I have noticed with public transport in the city. I
have been living in Valencia for 6 years, since 2016, and public transport is worse now than it
was then!

First of all, there are not enough buses. Passengers have to wait more than thirty minutes
between buses. If I were the manager of public transport, I would have buses every 10
minutes. Furthermore, if there were more buses, people would not have to use their cars and
pollution would fall.

Secondly, you should have buses 24 hours a day. At night it is very difficult and extremely
expensive to get a taxi. So, if there were extra buses people would get them. It would also be
safer for people walking on their own at night, because they could get a bus.

Finally, the price of the tickets is too expensive. Public transport here is much more expensive
than in Barcelona. If you reduced the cost of a ticket, more people would travel by train. Also,
you should charge lower prices for students and families.

I have attached my contact details. If you would like further information, please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully.
