F. Prove the following statements. (5 points each)

46-50. Prove that if n is odd then n2 is odd.

Answer:
 n is odd, let squared of an odd number is
odd.
 Proof * Since n is an odd integer, there
exists an integer k such that n = 2k + 1 .
Therefore n2 = (2K + 1 ) = 4 k 2 + 4k + 1 =
2 ( 2 k 2 + 2y) -1 .
51-55. The sum of two odd numbers is
even.
Answer:
 Let x and y be odd numbers 5 and 1
respectively, Then x + y = 5 + 7 + 12.
Therefore, the sum of two odd number is
even.
 The sum of the odd numbers is always
even.
56-70. For all real numbers, x and y, if x + y ≥ 2, then x ≥ 1 and y ≥ 1.
Answer:
 x + y ≥ , let x be a real number 1. Then , 1 + y ≥ 2 and 7 ≥ 1.Therefore
x ≥ 1∧ y ≥ 1

71-75. if 3n + 2 is odd then n is odd.

Answer:
 Contrapositive proof
Accordingly 6k+2 is even, Thus 3n+2 is even. This implies that the
statement if n is even then 3n+2 even is true. Therefore the
contrapositive “if 3n+2 is odd, then n is odd” is also true.

G. Solve the given problems. (5 points each)

76-80. Arcie needs Php 25,000 now to buy a laptop. He has decided to borrow money
from a lending company that charges 8% simple interest deducted in advance. How
much loan will Arcie apply for if he pays it in 2 years?

81-85. Suppose the NCAA basketball championships are decided on a best of five series
game. In how many different ways can a team win the championship?
Answer:
I) 3 - 0: Team A wins the first three games, thus eliminating the possibility of remaining two games being played.
It can happen in (3C3) = 1 way.
II) 3 - 1: Among the first three games; team A winning two and team B one; then, team A winning the fourth
game to nullify the chance of the fifth game being played. It can happen in {(3C2) * (1C1) * (1C1)} = (3 * 1 * 1)
= 3 ways.
III) 3 - 2: Among the first four games; team A and team B winning two games each; then, team A winning the
fifth game. It can happen in {(4C2) * (2C2) * (1C1)} = (6 * 1 * 1) = 6 ways.
Therefore, considering all three possible scorelines: a team can win the best of five final in (1 + 3 + 6) = 10
possible ways.

86-90. Three siblings Sofia, Achaiah, and Riana, Sofia gave Achaiah and Riana as much
money as each had. Then Achaiah gave Sofia and Riana as much money as each had.
Then Riana gave Sofia and Achaiah as much money as each had. Then each of the three
had P128. How much money did each have originally?
Answer:
64 po sagot ko

91-95. Write the first three terms of the sequence whose nth term is given by the
formula an = 3n + 1.
Answer:
tn=3n+1
put n=1
t(1)=3×2+1+1=4
n=2
t(2)=3×2+1=7
n=3
t(3)=3×3+ 1=10
so you can see that it make an A.P with common difference 3 series is 4,7,10....

95-100. Construct the truth table for [(~p q) [p (~r ~q)]

Answer:
