I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course focuses on Philippine development with respect to its historical origin. The
Philippines was subjected into different colonial masters which led to the alteration f its cultural patterns
and history. Addressing social problems of the present-day Philippines invoke the proper utilization of
historical underpinnings. This seeks to understand the contemporary social, political, economic and
educational development issues in a historical perspective.

II. LEARNING OUTCOMES


 After going through the course, the students will be able to:
A. Thinking and Communicating
1. Perceptive thinkers, who develop and use multiple frames of reference to identify, assess, integrate
and apply available information and resources in reasoning, decision-making and complex problem
solving.
2. Adaptable problem solvers, who anticipate, assess and resolve the problems and challenges that
accompany the fast changing political, economic, social and cultural conditions of modern life.

B. Feeling and Doing
1. Self-directed achievers, who formulate positive core values in order to create a vision for their future,
set priorities and goals, create options and take responsibility for pursuing these goals and monitor and
evaluate their progress
2. Involved citizens, who take the initiative to contribute their time, energies and talents to improve their
welfare and those of others and the quality of life in their local and global environments.
3. Innovative producers, who create intellectual, artistic and practical products that reflect originality and

COURSE GUIDELINES:

1. The course has the following requirements:

Mid-Term 25%

Reporting 10%
Assignments/Activities 15%
Participation/Attendance 10%

2. A breakdown of the grading system is provided below. For course credit, minimum requirement
is at 65% (with a grade of 1.0).

3. Deadlines (date/day and time) for submission of required outputs will be strictly followed.
Students who submitted an output late but within the day of the deadline will earn only 65% of
the score given for that particular output. Outputs submitted the following day (or days after the
deadline) may not be accepted and hence, will merit a score of zero for that requirement.
4. Lecture notes (in portable document format [pdf]) will be provided through the specified online
platform.
5. Class attendance will be monitored and the Student Handbook’s provisions on attendance shall
be followed.
