S and M: Surprise! Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you –

W: Hello Sally, hello Martin. Yeah, yeah, it’s my birthday, I know, I know.

S: Oh – here’s a card, from us.

W: Thanks.

S: Nice card, who’s it from?

W: My mum and dad. This makes two, lovely. Thanks.

M: That’s okay. Happy birthday anyway. So what are you going to do?

W: I don’t know. I’m twenty five, that’s so old. Maybe I’ll stay at home and watch this DVD.

S: No don’t be boring. Why don’t we go out for a meal somewhere, you, me, Martin, some

of the others?

M: Good idea. Where shall we go?

S: How about Thai Kitchen? It’s your favourite.

W: Good idea but, I’m on a diet.

M: I know. Bowling. Let’s go bowling.

W: Good idea but, my shoulder.

M: Right.

S: Hm. I know, it’s the music festival this week, there are lots of concerts. Martin, why

don’t you look on your phone and see what’s on tonight

M: Okay.

S: We’ll find something, it’ll be good. You can’t stay at home on your birthday.

M: There’s an evening of traditional English dancing at the arts centre.

S: Mm -
