Leadership Goals
I will develop my leadership in Teaching and Learning.
● GOAL: Encourage students to take ownership of their learning experiences.
● SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM OBJECTIVE: Provide opportunities for
students to choose formats, structure, and/or content of skills-based activities and
assessments.
○ RATIONALE: Giving students multiple opportunities for choice in
constructing their learning experience will provide natural differentiation,
motivating them to further develop their critical thinking and giving them an
increased sense of control over their learning (as per the linked research of
Pretorius, van Mourik, and Barratt, Monash University, International Journal
of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education).
○ NBPTS: Proposition 3: “Teachers are responsible for managing and
monitoring students' learning.”
○ TLMD: Domain I: “Fostering a collaborative culture to support educator
development and student learning.”
● TEACHER INQUIRY: I will enhance my English Language Arts teaching skills
through my Teacher Inquiry.

I will develop my leadership in Curriculum Design.

● GOAL: Ensure that class activities are designed to effectively prepare students for the
skills they will need in formative and summative assessments.
● SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM OBJECTIVE: Align the established goals of
class activities to those of assessments in the term.
○ RATIONALE: Ensuring intentionality regarding activity goals and alignment
between theirs and planned assessments will enhance the depth and breadth of
learning or “deep learning” while increasing student buy-in as they will better
understand the reasons for classroom activities (as per the linked Research
Guide from Camosun College).
○ NBPTS: Proposition 2: “Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to
teach those subjects to students.”
○ TLMD: Domain V: “Promoting the use of assessments and data for school and
district improvement.”

I will develop my leadership in Student Assessment.

● GOAL: Ensure that all assessments align with learning objectives and standards.
● SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM OBJECTIVE:
○ RATIONALE: Success in this area will improve critical thinking and college
readiness in ELA (as per the linked P21 Common Core Toolkit).
○ NBPTS: Proposition 1: “Teachers are committed to students and their
learning.”
○ TLMD: Domain IV: “Facilitating improvements in instruction and student
learning.”
