Future Goals:
- I will develop my leadership in knowing how to teach my subject (NBPTS 2).
- Goal: Find multiple pathways to generate knowledge in each lesson delivered.
- Rationale: This article offers suggestions for how to incorporate various
instructional strategies into lessons given the impact doing so has on the level of
student content mastery.
- NBPTS: Proposition 2: Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach
those subjects to students.
- TLMD: Domain 2: Accesses and uses research to improve practice and student
learning.
- Objective: Conduct research (observe other teachers, discuss with my mentor,
read blogs, etc.) to find ways to incorporate more instructional strategies and
learning styles into my lesson plans.
- I will develop my leadership through working with my peers and finding ways to support
each other.
- Goal: Foster a more collaborative environment among my peers (teachers,
administrators, and counselors).
- Rationale: According to this article, teacher collaboration has a positive impact on
student achievement in the classroom.
- NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of professional communities.
- TLMD: Domain 1: Fosters a collaborative culture to support educator
development and student learning.
- Objective: To share both successes and struggles in faculty meetings, ask for
advice with specific challenges from seasoned teachers, and help support newer
teachers with what I have learned.
- I will develop my leadership in the use of student assessments.
- Goal: Use a wider variety of assessments in the classroom and with more
frequency, particularly in AP courses.
- Rationale: This article points out that assessments should go beyond questioning
and tests/quizzes to include peer and self-assessments in order to have a
stronger impact on student learning.
- NBPTS: Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring
student learning.
- TLMD: Domain 5: Promoting the use of assessments and data for school and
district improvement.
- Objective: Create a list of both formal and informal assessments and plug them
all into the next unit for both my AP Literature and AP Language courses.
- I will develop my leadership in working collaboratively with the community.
- Goal: Find unique ways to include families and the community in my curriculum.
- Rationale: This article cites research that states students who have communities
involved in their education are more likely to attend school, get better grades, be
happier, and more.
- NBPTS: Proposition 5: Teachers are members of professional communities.
- TLMD: Domain 6: Improves outreach and collaboration with families and
community.
- Objective: Incorporate parents and local community centers into
activities/research projects completed in the classroom.
