WEEK – 4

1. Farmer’s field, Nagar road(Needamangalam)

We visited to the farmer Chakravarthi’s field and had a practical experience on about
SRI and Machine transplanting.

2. Fertilizer shop, Needamangalam

 We visited to the private fertilizer shop (VVS shop) and this class was explained by
Agricultural officer Mr.Thangapandian (Needamangalam) about different chemicals such as
insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers. We learned about the procedures for getting the license
for keeping the shop and how they are maintaining their records (stock register, invoice, bill
book, delivery note etc..,).

3. Farmers training program

We attended the farmers training program on awareness about Kuruvai subsidy

package especially for delta regions and this training was conducted by scientists of KVK. By
attending this program we realized how these subsidies are helpful to the farmers.

4. Field day event on Hybrid castor, Vellakudi

 We participated in field day event on Hybrid castor which was conducted by Tapioca
and Castor Research Station, Yethapur. It was headed by Dr. Amala Joseph Prabhakar
(Directorate of Oilseed Research, Hyderabad).It was conducted because, for the first time castor
was commercially cultivated in Thiruvarur district (eventhough the soil is clay in nature) with
the help of KVK, Needamangalam.

5. Farmers Grievances day program at collectorate, Thiruvarur

We attended the farmers grievances day program at collectorate. In this program

farmers from different blocks of Thiruvarur district had put forth their problems infront of
Collector, Joint Director of Agriculture, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Professor and Head of
KVK, Needamangalam and Assistant Director of Agriculture of all the blocks of Thiruvarur.

6. Fertilizer Control Lab, Thiruvarur

We learned about the objectives and mandates of Fertilizer Control Lab. We had a
knowledge on procedures for testing nutrient composition in inorganic fertilizer, period for
analyzing the sample, giving result for the particular sample analysis and different forms such as
K,L,P form etc.., These informations are given to us by Mrs. Arulrani(A.O) .
 7. Farmer’s field

We attended a class along with students of Central University of Tamilnadu, Thiruvarur

about how to manage a scarce resource like water mainly in Paddy cultivation. This class was
taught by Prof. S.P. Ramanadhan (Water Technology Centre, Coimbatore).

WEEK-5

1. Pesticide Testing Lab, Nagapattinam

We learned about the role of Pesticide Testing Lab. This class was explained by
Mrs.Vigneshwari (A.O) about how they are receiving the sample, allocation of samples, procedures
and methods for analyzing the sample and we had a practical exposure on working of different
instruments.
2. UzhavarSandhai, Mannarkudi

In this class Mr.Manohar, Deputy Director of Agri Business and Marketing explained
us about how Farmers market are functioning and how they are useful to both the
farmers(producer) and the consumers.
3. Farmer’s Training program
 We attended a farmer’s training program on crop insurance. In this program we gained
knowledge about how crop insurance was supporting the farmers and it was conducted by
Mr.Nakeeran, Farm Manager, KVK.

4.Farmer field:

We had a practical exposure on slatted house goat rearing and it was taught to us by
Mr. N.Ilanchezian, ADA, Needamangalam.

4. Farmer’s training program

 We attended a farmer’s training program on seed production in green manure crops
and it was clearly explained by Dr.V. Alex Albert (seed technology, KVK).We learned about the
cultivation practices and its uses.

5.Documentary film preparation

 We participated in a documentary film on SRI in Thiruvarur district. In this film
Assistant Director of Agriculture, Agriculture Officer and farmers of Needamangalam had
participated.
 WEEK-6

1. Farmers training program

We attended a farmers training program on usage of computer and internet in

agriculture which was taught by Mrs.Sagunthala (Agricultural Engineering, KVK). In this
program, a new software for fertilizer recommendation called Nutrient Manager for Rice is also
introduced to the farmers.

2.Mass contact at Nagar, Needamangalam

 We participated in mass contact at Nagar, Needamangalam. In this program, all the
departments of govt. exhibited their activities through models in stalls. Subsidies in Kuruvai
package were given to the farmers by the collector of Thiruvarur district.
3.Visit to agri business centre(vikas agri clinic):

We attended the lecture about the functions and activities of seed inspection given by
seed inspector Dr. kannan A.O. Also observed the inspection taken by the seed inspector on the
behalf of deputy director, seed inspection.

4.Method demonstration of rice transplanter:

 We participated in method demonstration given by department of agriculture and
KVK, Needamangalam and also practiced the transplanter in rice field. Mr.Mayilvaganan , JDA,
ADAs’ and AOs’ of agricultural department and farmers also participated in this demonstration.

5.Visit to farmer’s field (naidu pannai):

We visited the farmer’s field at Rajapaian saavadi and we were learnt about the
farming practices and tactics of the fish production.

6.Visit to mega agri clinic, mannarkudi:

 We visited the agri clinic headed by Mrs. Bhuvaneshwari assisted under ACABC
scheme, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. We got an idea about the
ACABC scheme and functions of agri clinic.
