Statement of Problem

The writer is conducting research on the topic "Why is there a high level of drug use among

students at the Micoud Secondary School?" The Micoud Secondary School is an institution in

the Micoud district, which is located on the south-east coast of St. Lucia.

At the end of this investigation, the writer would like to find out answers for the following

objectives:

1. Is there a high rate of drug use among students at the Micoud Secondary School?

2. What factors contribute to drug use among students at the Micoud Secondary School?

3. How can drug use impact students at the Micoud Secondary School?

4. What measures can be put in place to reduce the rate of drug use among students at the

Micoud Secondary School?


Task 2
Reason for Selecting the Area of Research

The researcher chose this area of research because based on observation the researcher realized

that there is a high rate of drug use among students at the Micoud Secondary School. The use of

drugs can have a great impact on the life of teenagers. It can cause them to behave negatively

and engage in unacceptable behaviours. Therefore, the researcher wants to find out what drives

teenagers to use drugs and possible measures that could be put in place to help prevent teenagers

from engaging in the use of drugs.


Task 3
Method of Investigation

The research instrument which the writer decided to use to carry out research is a questionnaire.

According to questionpro.com, a questionnaire is a research instrument that consists of a set of

questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent.

The questionnaire as a tool for carrying out investigation, has a number of advantages and they
are:

1. It is easy to plan, construct and administer

2. It guarantees confidentiality since respondents are not required to attach their names.

3. An efficient way of obtaining large amounts of information from a large sample of people
