INTRODUCTION

The past simple indicates past events that have already happened. It differs from the past
continuous, which refers to past events that are ongoing. The latter emphasizes that the action
occurred over a period of time. In addition, the past simple indicates feelings such as nostalgia
or happiness regarding a past experience. Writing in the active voice makes the statements
more active, direct and strong. This is because statements written in the past simple of the
verb to be use an adjective, noun or prepositional phrase. In a passive sentence, the verb
describes an action performed by another person; the subject is someone or something that
performs the action of the verb.

CONCLUSION

The past simple refers to past events that have already happened. Like the present perfect or
past continuous, the simple past emphasizes that the action has ended. A tense indicates
time, and voice indicates whether the subject of a clause performs or receives the action of the
verb. By removing the word "I" from a passive sentence, one reveals the subject as the
grammatical entity upon which the verb acts. Thus, the ball in the previous line becomes the
subject by receiving the action.
