Transformer Calculation Formula:

1. Find the core area in square inch:

Ac = Width X Thickness
Ac = 1 1/4 X 1 1/4
Ac = 1.25 x 1.25
Ac = 1.5625 sq. inches

2. Compute the number of turns per volt:

T/V = K / Ac (6.85 Constant)

T/V = 6.85 / 1.5625 =
T/V = 4.384 turns per volt

3. Find the total number of turns in primary winding:

Tp = Ep x T/V
Tp = 220v x 4.384 turns
Tp = 110v x 4.384 turns
Tp = 965 turns @ 220v
Tp = 482 turns @ 110v

4. Determine the wattage of core! if not given, allowing 30 watts for every sq.
inch:

W = 30W x Ac
W = 30W x 1.5625
W = 46.875

5. Find the current in primary winding:

Ip = W / Ep
Ip = 46.875 / 220v
Ip = 0.213068 ampere

6. Find the size of the wire to be use in primary winding,

(cross sectional area in circular mils) area of wire for the primary:

C.Mp = Ip x K (1000 constant)

C.Mp = 0.213068 x 1000
C.Mp = 213.068 = #27 AWG magnetic wire

( see table of wire in AWG for C.Mp result ) ..!

7. Find the total Number of turns in the secondary winding

Ts = Es x T/V
Ts = 24v x 4.384
Ts = 105.216

8. Find the current in secondary winding:

Is = W / Es
Is = 46.875 / 24v
Is = 1.953125

9. Find the size of the wire to be use in secondary winding,

(cross sectional area in circular mils) area of wire for the secondary:

C.Ms = Is x K (1000 constant)

C.Ms = 1.953125 x 1000
C.Ms = 1953.125 = #17 AWG magnetic wire

( see table of wire in AWG for C.Ms result ) ..!

10. Computation of final Current/AMPERES:

I = W / Vs (half of secondary voltage)

I = 46.875 / 12v
I = 3.90625 amperes
