A. INTRODUCTION A. Look at the pictures: These are the things
that helps man work easier. Can you
name the tool the man uses? Let us find
out.

to make our task or work easier?

Machines will help you make your tasks easier


and quicker. Moreover, accidents may happen
when machines break down or when used
improperly. You can get cut by sharp tools. They
may also tumble off your bikes or even get
injured when running simple machines.

-What are simple machines? Simple machines


are machines that have been used since ancient
times. These have been developed to make
work lighter and less difficult.

1. A pulley is a grooved wheel that turns


around an axle which is held in place by a
mounting bracket.
2. Levers have fulcrum or fixed point, point
of effort, and the load which is being
moved.
3. An inclined plane is another simple
machine. It is a plane tilted at an angle
with one end higher than the other.
4. Screw is a spiral inclined plane. It is
composed of a cylindrical body with a
spiral ridge called thread.
5. Wedges are typically good for cutting and
piercing.
6. Wheel and axle are a simple machine
that has a small disk or shaft called an
axle that is attached to a wheel.

When you use the simple machines to do


work, two kinds of forces are involved the force
applied to the machine and the force applied by
the machine to act against another force like
friction and gravity. The force applied to a
machine is a force called the resistance force.

B. DEVELOPMENT Learning Task 1: Place the name of each simple


machine under each picture.

Learning Task 2: Look around your home. Find a


simple machine that you see A thing that you
think are examples of a simple machine or a
combination of simple machines.

Learning Task 3: Identifying the simple machines.

1. Examine each machine and look for its
observable characteristics.
2. Identify what kind of machine is each tool.

direction of the force, split, cut or fasten things.
