Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Have you ever imagined, when we are in 100 years of independence for our beloved country,
Indonesia. We all, the youth who are the hope of the nation, play various important roles in this
country. From economics, politics, socio-culture, and the development of science and technology
and also resources, we are the ones holding it, we are control it, making innovation and
development. We become agents of change for this nation.

And, here's the fact, when we step on and become a college student. We hold that important role,
become an agent of change.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning, Good afternoon, or Good evening depending on when you
watch this speech.

My name is Ridho Bagus Nurrohman, representative for 1A-Refrigeration and Air

Conditioning Engineering from Bandung State Polytechnic (POLBAN), and right now I would
like to talk about us, “ College Students as Agents of Change“. I hope you all are feeling as amazing
as I am right now, thought to be honest I am a little bit nervous. This topic looks familiar, but it's
very important to know.

College students or Mahasiswa. As a learner and part of society. College students should
have a complex and comprehensive role in society. Of course, it is undeniable how big the role
played by students in realizing national change. The ideas and intelligent thoughts of a student are
able to change the paradigm that develops in a group and make it directed according to common
interests. The critical attitude of college students often makes a big change and makes
“incompetent leaders” burning and anxious.

Ideally, (as I have notice before) students become role models in society, based on their
knowledge, level of education, norms that apply around them, and patterns of thinking. So, college
students are grouped into the functions of agent of change, social control and moral force, guardian
value, and iron stock. And here, I will only discuss agent of change.

Why we can conclude college students as agent of change? Being the student at the highest
level of education, means that we are students who has sharpest way of thinking and analytical
skills, compared to ordinary students. We are not those who just swallow what is stated in. We are
required to think deeper, analyze to find the most effective solution to answer a problem.

At this stage, college students have to become leaders for themselves. Being independent.
No one will provide or gave suggestions on the scale of priorities that should be set. You are the
one who can determine which one that must to do and which one is not. What should be prioritized
and what should not be. Which one is legal and which one is forbidden.

College students are required to be able to control the state of the country; not only to
criticize, but also to make a real contribution to change for the better. As intellectuals, students
must be brave and critical, dare to “break the times” towards advancement and being critical to the
policies of the holders, wheels of government.

Students act as public transportation to convey their aspirations.

College students can carry out their role as agent of change and bring society to a more just
social order. When they are able to see critically the existing social conditions, they can seek
changes so that people live in more ideal conditions. But this role is certainly not easy. In fact, not
all students are able to carry out these roles. Students need to continue to learn and increase their
knowledge in order to carry out their roles.

We, students must be consciously willing to create those solutions. To be able to turn
challenges into potential and opportunities. As agents of change, we can no longer think linearly
(one way), but must think circularly (from all directions). Starting from thinking about the good
of oneself, the good of the family, the good of the environment, the good of the nation and the
good of the country. By doing this, students can become real agents of change.

Being an agent of change means that students must have mental awareness, are sensitive,
care, and have an imagination for a better life. Efforts to make this change need to be fought for.
Because change cannot just happen, a massive and continuous movement is needed to change the
current condition for the better.

One of Bung Karno's words "Give me ten youths and I will quake the world" or "Berikan
aku 10 pemuda, maka akan kuguncangkan dunia" emphasizes how important the role of youth in
the progress of the nation and state is. Because the younger generation, agents of change are the
successors and heirs of the nation and state. As a college student and part of youth, you can develop
many ways to make a change. Not only big changes, even small changes will still have an impact.

So, have you played your role as a college student with the role of agent of change? You can
answer it from your heart.

I hope you guys enjoy my speech, thank you for your attention.

Wassalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb
