Nepal

On the 29th of April 2015, an earthquake measuring 7.9 magnitude occurred in Nepal. The earthquake
was shallow, 15km above the surface. Caused severe ground shaking, widespread avalanches, and
landslides.

9000 dead and 20000 injured, over 8 million people Search and rescue teams providing water and medical
affected. support arriving from the UK, India, and China.

3 million left homeless when homes were destroyed. -Half a million tents needed to provide shelter for the
homeless.
-Thousands of homeless people to be rehoused, and
damaged homes repaired.

7000 schools destroyed and hospitals overwhelmed. -Field hospitals set up to support overcrowded main
hospitals.
-over 7000 schools to be rebuilt or repaired

Avalanches on Mount Everest killed at least 19 -Repairs to Mount Everest base camp and trekking
people routes- by August 2015, new routes established and
mountain re-opened.
-Helicopters rescued many people caught in
avalanches on Mount Everest

Ground shaking triggered avalanches and landslides, -Roads repaired and landslides cleared.
