Introductory Message
This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

How can you say if your friend is telling the truth or not?

LESSON
Fact is something that has taken place or known to have existed, which can
be validated with pieces of evidence.
A Fact:
• can be proven true or false through objective evidence;
• relies on denotative language; and
• frequently uses measurable or verifiable numbers, statistics, dates and
measurements.
Let’s take these examples. Look closely to the underlined word in each
sentence. These are the commonly used words to state facts.
An Opinion:
• cannot be presently verified;
• relies on connotative language;
• can mean different things to different people; and
• uses value judgment words and comparisons such as “best,” “most,”
etc.
Let’s have some examples of Opinion. As you can see these underlined words
shows uncertainty in statements.
1. He claimed that taking lemon juice everyday reduce the risk of virus.
2. It is the officer’s view that the virus will end next year.
3. The report argues that UP’s COVID-19 forecast is not true.
4. Many scientists suspect that COVID-19 is from the bat.

The answer is Opinion because it uses the superlative word “most”

The correct answer is opinion because it relies on people’s judgment.

Matthew Vollbrecht
In some ways Matthew Vollbrecht is just like other boys. In other ways, he is
not. When Matthew was three years old, he had a rare disease. The disease caused
him to lose his eyesight. Being blind help Matthew to discover his talents for music.
He learned that he can play a song on the piano if he listens to it first. He also learned
that he loves to sing!
What Matthew likes best is making people happy. He does this by sharing his
musical talents. In one year, Matthew performed in over 100 concerts. He even sang
the national anthem at a major baseball game.
When Matthew grows up, he plans to keep singing. He knows there will be
many jobs that he cannot do. But he hopes he can always entertain people. For that
reason, Matthew practices every day!
