To whom it may concern,

Music education has long been a passion of mine, along with fostering the growth of
students of all ages and backgrounds. Using my experiences and knowledge gained from
James Madison University and the surrounding area, I am more than exhilarated to begin
my journey into the classroom to teach the next generation of musicians and responsible
citizens.

While attending James Madison University, I enrolled in and completed my coursework

for the Music Education concentration. I actively sought to open my mind as much as
possible, to hear and absorb other perspectives and ideas in my musical and academic
studies. With this mindset, I attended conferences, played in varying ensembles, and
instructed students in order to develop and learn as an educator. In order to ensure the
success of my future students, I am adamant about the inclusion of all students regardless
of race, gender, religion, socioeconomic background, ethnicity, and experience. It is
imperative to me that all students are given a fair chance and are never harassed or
discriminated against in pursuit of their dreams and passions. Students should always be
the sole focus of a music educator’s work, and their development and experiences should
always be top priority in the classroom.

Music education is essential to a well-rounded education, and can be used to teach real
world skills such as teamwork, communication, confidence, independence, and purpose.
These skills are important in establishing the foundation to a responsible citizen and
leader in modern society.

I look forward to meeting further in a scheduled interview, and hope that this letter may
show how my skills and knowledge can be used to further your musical department in its
endeavors. I wholly appreciate you taking time to read this letter and hope that you will
consider me as an addition to your work environment this upcoming academic year.

Sincerely,

Mr. John Donnell
