DANCESPORTS GUIDELINES

Title of Activity : Palarong Pampaaralan Dance Sports Competition 2023

1. Bona fide students enrolled in public and private elementary/secondary schools within
Division of Oriental Mindoro.
2. Two couples to dance Grade C (three dances)
3. Categories: Juvenile (12 years old below)
Junior High School (13-17 years old)
If the Senior High School students are reached in 17 years old, they shall be entered in
Junior Category. But they are required to compete in Grade C category.
4. Three dances in Modern Standard Discipline (Waltz, Tango, Quickstep) both Juvenile
and Junior level;
Three dances in Latin America Discipline (Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Jive) for Juvenile and
for Junior Level are Cha Cha Cha, Rumba and Jive are required to be
performed/executed in all category.
5. Competitors shall dress or costume according to the WDSF Dress Regulations; for both
Juvenile and Junior: only one color, no combinations, skin tones not allowed, no shiny
effects, no decoration in clothing, body and hair. Must dress appropriately.
6. No Make-Up. MUST BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.
7. Observe proper and descent costume or attire. Dancers should use appropriate and
comfortable shoes.
8. Personality makeover of the dancers must be strictly observed based on the level of
competition.
9. The Chairman of the adjudicators may disqualify any couple at a competition when
either partner is not dressed or costumed according to these rules.
10. All coaches and competitors shall submit the required Dance Sports Syllabus to the
management before the competition.
11. The body of Adjudicators are responsible to check the restricted basic dance figures and
syllabus of the couples before the competition proper.
12. Time allotment should have a maximum of 1.15 minutes in each dance and 1 minute for
Jive and Quickstep. There should be at least 5-10 seconds rest for each dance.
13. Music in all parts of the contest shall be given and shall be played only by the
management.
14. Apply international rules. Latin dances have no lifting, release in modern standard
dances are strictly prohibited.
15. Criteria will be based on the proper adjudication system as implemented upon by the
National Accreditation in Dance Sports.
16. Components of Judging: Technical Quality (10), Movement to Music (10), Partnering
Skill (10), Choreography and Presentation (10) for a total of 40 points.
17. The basis of scoring shall come from the aspects discussed and enumerated.
18. The highest points in each category shall ranked 1.
19. There will be (3) three sets of performance, first round, semi-final and final round.
20. If the number of the participants/couples in each level is only 5, competition shall
automatically proceed to semi-finals.
21. If the number of the participants/couples in each level is only 3, competition shall
automatically proceed to finals.
22. The judging of a couple begins when they adopt their dancing positions and ends only
when the music stops. The judge must check his/her marks during the entire dance and
may amend them if necessary.
23. If the couple stops dancing while the music is being played, the couple must be placed
last in the rank. If this happens during the final round, the couple must also be placed
last in the rank.
24. Adjudicator is under no obligation to justify his/her marks to competing couples. During
the competition or in the intervals between rounds of the competition, the adjudicator is
prohibited from any discussion about the competitors and or their performance with any
person.
25. In all dances, timing and basic rhythm will take place. In the proceedings over the other
fields of adjudication, so that if couple repeatedly makes mistakes in this category, they
must be placed last in the rank.
26. Apply rules and regulation of the National Accreditation on Dance Sports.
27. Adjudicators shall be composed of (4) four members, (1) one chief scrutineer, (1) one
asst. scrutineer and (2) two barkers
28. Adjudicators, coaches and trainers are expected to be knowledgeable, equipped with
rules on dance sports, and aware in all aspects introduced. Take note that the proper
basic movements are emphasized.
29. Protest will be entertained by the management in official written communication. Only
the Coach or the School Heads/Principal of any concern school is authorized to file
protest within (12) twelve hours.
30. Composition of technical officials and Jury in dance sports should be composed of 1)
Division Sports Officer 2) School PESS Coordinator, 3) School Heads of District
Delegation, 4) Tournament Manager
31. One representative (Knowledgeable in Dance Sports Rules) in each team shall be
required to sit at the long table of adjudicators to avoid doubt in the contest. But the
representative of each team is not allowed to deliberate with the adjudicators in case of
a minimal circumstance happened during the contest.
32. The decision of the panel of adjudicators is always final.
33. Other rules may be applied according to the decision of the dance sports management
and participating couples/teams/school and others.
34. The selection of athletes and coaches is based on the overall ranking. Winners in
different categories both Juvenile and Junior will represent the MIMAROPA region in
Palarong Pambansa 2023.
