The calculation of creep deflection for concrete slabs in accordance with the Eurocode 2 (EC2)

standard involves several steps, including calculating the concrete tensile strength, calculating
the long-term modulus of elasticity, and calculating the time-dependent deformation.

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Calculate the concrete tensile strength:

The concrete tensile strength fctm can be calculated using the following equation:

fctm = 0.3 * √fck

where fck is the characteristic compressive strength of concrete. For C30/37 concrete, the
characteristic compressive strength is 30 MPa, so:

fctm = 0.3 * √30 = 1.95 MPa

2. Calculate the long-term modulus of elasticity:

The long-term modulus of elasticity Ecm can be calculated using the following equation:

Ecm = 22 * (fck/10)^0.3

where fck is the characteristic compressive strength of concrete in MPa. For C30/37 concrete:

Ecm = 22 * (30/10)^0.3 = 30.8 GPa

3. Calculate the time-dependent deformation:

The time-dependent deformation can be calculated using the following equation:

Δcd(t) = φ(t) * ϵci * h^2 / (8 * (1 + ν) * L^2)

where: φ(t) is the creep coefficient at time t ϵci is the instantaneous elastic strain h is the
thickness of the slab ν is Poisson's ratio (assumed to be 0.2 for concrete) L is the span length of
the slab

The instantaneous elastic strain can be calculated using the long-term modulus of elasticity Ecm
and the 28-day compressive strength fcm of the concrete, which can be estimated using the
following equation:

fcm = fck + 8

where fck is the characteristic compressive strength of concrete in MPa. For C30/37 concrete:

fcm = 30 + 8 = 38 MPa
The instantaneous elastic strain is then:

ϵci = 0.6 * fcm / Ecm

ϵci = 0.6 * 38 / 30.8 = 0.741

The creep coefficient φ(t) can be calculated using the following equation:

φ(t) = φt0 * (t0 + tc) / (t + tc)

where: φt0 is the initial creep coefficient at age t0 = 28 days t is the age of the concrete in days tc
is the age at which the sustained loading is applied

For C30/37 concrete, the initial creep coefficient φt0 can be estimated as follows:

φt0 = 2.0 * 10^-6 * (fcm - 10)^0.5

φt0 = 2.0 * 10^-6 * (38 - 10)^0.5 = 0.000806

Assuming the sustained loading is applied at age tc = 28 days, the creep coefficient φ(t) at age t
can be calculated as:

φ(t) = 0.000806 * (28 + 28) / (t + 28)

Substituting these values into the equation for time-dependent deformation, we get:

Δcd(t) = (0.000806 * (28 + 28) / (t + 28)) * 0.741 * (0.3)^2 / (8 * (1 + 0.2) * (3.25)^2)

Simplifying this equation, we get:

Δcd(t) = 0
