TECHNOLOGY FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING 2

DETAILED LESSON PLAN

FEBRUARY __, 2021

Name: Jelo V. Clavel Subject: Mathematics 7

Course: BSED MATHEMATICS Section: 3A

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of key
concepts, uses and importance of Statistics, data collection/gathering and
the different forms of data representation, measures of central tendency,
measures of variability, and probability.
B. Performance Standard: The learner is able to collect and organize
data systematically and compute accurately measures of central tendency
and variability and apply these appropriately in data analysis and
interpretation in different fields.
C. Learning Competency/Objectives: The learner calculates the
measures of central tendency of ungrouped and grouped data. (M7SP-IVf-
g-1)

Specific Objectives: At the end of sixty minutes discussion, the students

are expected to:

a. Define Median
b. Find the median of ungroup data
c. Describe the data using information from the median
d. Apply and use excel in finding the median of ungroup data

II. CONTENT: Measures of Central tendency for Ungrouped Data (Median).

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages: K to 12 Curriculum Guide
2. Learner’s Guide pages: Mathematics Learner’s Module 7 pp. 241-251
B. Other Learning Resources: laptop, projector, deck of cards, 6 dice

IV. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary

Orderliness/Cleanliness *Ask to arrange the chairs *Arranged the chair and

of Classroom and clean the room clean the room

Prayer *Ask a student to lead the *Stand and a student will

Prayer lead the prayer

Checking of Attendance *Check the seat plan,

vacant seat meant absent *Sit in their proper seat
assigned by the teacher

B. Lesson Proper
Review Yesterday, we discuss
about the mean of
ungroup data, who can
define mean?

Yes Mr. Alden (Student will stand)

Sir, the Mean is commonly
known as the “average”. It
made use of all the data to
describe the set of data.
Very Good!
Now, how can we find the (Student will stand)
mean? Yes? We can find the mean by
summing up the data and
divide it by the number of
elements

Very good! Now, let’s

move on to our next
measure of central
tendency, but before that,
let’s have an activity.
C. Discussion
Activity Title: “I’m the one”

Divide the class into 4

groups, it must have 2
groups which has even
number of members, and 2
group that has odd
number of members.
The members will roll the
die and record what they
Give 3 dice each for the
got. After that they will
first 2 groups
write the numbers, they all
got in a paper

For the next 2 groups, The members of each

Divide the deck of cards group will draw a card,
into two and rearrange it. and also record their value
number and write it on a
paper

(Sample data)

Dice

1st group:
3, 9, 7, 12, 18,14

2nd group:
4, 11, 16, 6, 17

Cards:
3rd group
1, 5, 12, 13, 7, 3

4th group
2, 4, 8, 12, 6
Follow up question
(Student will stand)
What do these numbers Sir, they represent the
represent? numbers or data that we
get from performing the
task, and we call it raw
data
Great!
(Student will stand)
Can we get clear and
No sir, because looking at
precise information
it, it is just values without
immediately as we look at
meaning, because we
these numbers? Why?
didn’t do anything like
summing it up and dividing
it by the number of
elements like we did in the
Nice! mean
Now, looking at the data
can you guess the middle
value of your group’s data? (Student will only look for
the middle and answer it)
Group 1: 9.5
Group 2: 16
Group 3: 12.5
Group 4: 8
Analysis Our topic for today is (Student will stand)
median. But what is really Median value of a data set
a median? Mr. Alden is simply the middle value
please read the definition of the set arranged in
ascending or descending
order. In case there are
two middle values, add the
two values and divide it by
2.
What did you understand
about what you have read? It says that a median is
the middle value of a data
when it is arranged in
increasing or decreasing
Very good, the arranged
order
data will now be called an
array

Now, group 1 and Group 3

please write in the board 1st group:
your data as well as your 3, 9, 7, 12, 18,14
guessed middle value Median=9.5

3rd group
1, 5, 12, 13, 7, 3
I will give you a minute to
Median=12.5
observe the data written in (observe)
the board and apply the
definition of the median.

Time’s up, now, what did

you notice about the data? (Student will stand)
Yes? Sir, I think it is not right
because according to the
definition we have to
arrange the data
Very good! Now who can
arrange it? Ok Althea and (Student will stand)
st
Alden please rearrange the 1 group:
data 3, 7, 9, 12, 14, 18
3rd group:
1, 3, 5, 7, 12, 13
Nice, please check if they
arrange it correctly Correct sir (in chorus)

Now is the number of

elements is even or odd? Even sir (in chorus)

Very good, now what

would we do to find the Add the 2 values in the
median? middle and divide it by 2
sir (in chorus)
Very good, and in doing it
we have a median of? 10.5 sir and 6 sir

Very good, now, group 2 2nd group:

and group 4 pleas present 4, 11, 16, 6, 17
your data Median=16

4th group
2, 4, 8, 12, 6
Median=8

Now who can find the right (Raised hands)

median of the data
presented? (Write in the board)
Okay go on 2nd group:
4, 6, 11, 16, 17
Median=11
4th group
2, 4, 6, 8, 12,
Median=6
Ok class, is the answer Yes sir (in chorus)
correct?

Is finding the median Yes sir (in chorus)

easy?

Good, because that’s all for

our topic today

Abstraction Again, what is median? (Student will stand)

Yes? Sir, median the element in
the middle of the data set
after it’s arranged in order.
Good!
How can we find or solve (Student will stand)
the median? What the step The first step sir is to
1? Yes? arrange the data in
increasing or decreasing
form.
Nice!
What do you call if we (Student will stand)
arranged the data in It is called array sir
ascending or descending
form?

Great! (Student will stand)

Now the next step? Yes? The next step sir is to find
the middle of the data and
that would be our median
value

That’s good, but it’s only if (Student will stand)

we have an odd number of Sir we will add the two
elements, what if we got middle numbers and divide
an even number? it by two to get the
median.
Okay, very good
Application Now, please answer this in
your notebook

Direction: Rearrange the The student arranges the

values and find the median numbers in ascending
order

120, 118, 123, 124, 138, 108, 115, 118, 118, 118,
137, 130, 119, 120, 125, 118, 119, 119, 119, 119,

For guidance and Answer: median=125

assistance, you can work
in pair

How did you find the (Student will stand)

activity? Sir it’s hard to rearrange
because of having too
many data

Yes, it is hard, that’s why

I’m going to share to you
how to rearrange a data (listen)
and find it’s median easier
through the help of
technology.

Have you use excel No sir/Yes sir (in chorus)

before?
Wow! really? Please teach
Did you know that we can us sir
use excel in rearranging
the data? And we can also
find it’s median there?
(Observe)
Show how to operate the
excel
(Pick one representative
for each group)
Now can I have 1
(They will each try to input
representative for each
the data of their group and
group to input their data
try to do a command in
and try to operate excel
excel to rearrange it and
find the median)

Is the result is the same Yes sir!

with what we discuss?
Yes sir! It saves time and
Is it easier to use it rather energy sir.
than rearranging the data
1 by 1?
No sir! The topic was well-
Alright! Now that’s the end presented
our discussion, any
questions, clarification, or
violent reaction regarding
our topic today
