 An adverb is a describing word.
 It describes actions or verbs.
 A lot of adverbs ends in –ly.
 Examples:
1. I can run quickly
2. She jumped bravely

ADVERBS 2
RULES
 Not all words that end –ly are adverbs. Some adjectives
end in –ly too. For example:
1. A costly diamond
2. A lonely boy
3. A lovely dress
 We can make adverbs from adjectives
 adjective+ly (quick – quickly, bad – badly )
 We cant add –ly to the adjective good. The adverb for good
is well.
 adjectives with ending –l, also add –ly (careful – carefully)
 adjectives with –y change to –ily (easy – easily, happy –
happily)

ADVERBS OF MANNER

• describe “how”.
• The adverb shows how an action or
something is done.
• Examples: quickly, loudly, beautifully
• The boy shouted loudly.
• She walks quickly to school.

ADVERBS 4
ADVERBS OF TIME

• describe, “when?”
• tell you when someone does something, or
when something happens.
• Examples: then, soon, now, before, since,
already
• I cannot remember what she told me before
• She is gardening now.
• The train has already left

ADVERBS OF PLACE

• describe “where”
• the adverbs show where an action or
something is done or happens.
• Examples: here, there, nowhere,
everywhere, outside, nearby, above
• The children are playing outside
• I’ve looked everywhere but I can’t
find it.

ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

• tells us how frequent something


happens, how often a person does
something and how often something is
done.
• Examples: daily, everyday
• The children cycle to school everyday
• My mother cooks daily
