2M4 Reflection Paper: Virtue
1. The reason why Phil pick that specific day during the time in the bowling alley
is because it is the exact opposite of what he is currently experiencing in
Punxsutawney in every aspect. In the Virgin Islands he was with a girl he met
whom he likes or even admire, in a place where it is warm and nice, eating
edible and magnificent foods as well as drink pinacolato and lastly the day
ends, and he was happy. In Punxsutawney on the other hand he is
accompanied by a girl whom he is stuck with and don’t ever care about, stayed
in a horrible hotel, visited in a place cold as ice, surrounded by people he
despise and the same thing will happen every single day. This represent him
to be the kind of person who only cares about himself and only enjoys and
appreciate the good things in life. Some might say that he is the kind of person
who only wants to experience the good things in life. If I were to choose a day
to relive over and over again I would pick an event in my life where I
experienced happiness, sadness, anger, joy, regret and satisfaction since I
believe to truly live a good life is when you experience all emotions in this
world.

2. Rita’s idea of a “perfect guy” is solely based on her preference in terms of

attitude, appearance and behavior of a guy which we can observe that it is
somewhat similar to her personality therefore we can conclude that she wants
someone with the same attitude and behavior with her. The idea of a “perfect
person” for me is more of culturally relative rather than completely subjective
since each individual have his/her own taste, opinions, preferences and
ideology of what a “perfect person” really is however these factors are all
according to or the root of these can be traced down to a persons culture where
he/she grow up in.

3. During this time, Phil was beginning to realize and reevaluate his life choices
beliefs more specifically on how he treats other people, what he considered
acts as good, he started to realize the value of life of each individual human
being. In order to fully live life to the fullest one must do good to others so
that he himself can be considered as a good person.

4. During Phil’s first interaction with Ned Ryerson I can consider it as morally
appropriate since this was more likely to be their first time to meet again since
elementary school justifying the reactions of Phil of confusion and lost despite
being reminded by Ned on how they were acquaintance. However, their next
two meeting, Phil also showed morally appropriate behavior since he was still
confused of what was happening. On the fourth meeting, their interactions
were morally inappropriate since Phil’s behavior of easily being irritated with

Ned shows his inconsideration to the feelings of other people and how he was
easily influenced by his emotions such as his anger. During their last meeting,
Phil redeemed himself since during the time he has now fully accepted and
gain some realization of what was happening in order to compensate for his
short comings, he availed all services offer by Ned.

5. The distinction of pleasure and happiness varies from person to person. One
can say that happiness brings pleasure while others beg to differ. To properly
differentiate the two concepts pleasure is something that gives us satisfaction
while happiness is the feeling of completeness. Pleasure was portrayed in the
movie in various ways specially with Phil, during the first few “days” after
realizing that he can control what will happen he began to manipulate the
sequence of event that would result to his pleasure or being satisfied by
ordering what ever he wants, practicing “live life to the fullest”, spending
every money he owns/gain until such time he realized he was not happy or
something is lacking, the feeling on being incomplete. This is where Rita will
come in and be the last piece of the puzzle, Phil now realize that he needs to
connect with other people in order to be happy. Once he achieved it now truly
feels happiness with pleasure.
