V. Event Summary:
A virtual webinar event with the subject “Air, Land, and Sea: Future Career in
Hospitality and Tourism Industry” was held on December 18 at the Pampanga State
Agricultural University, PAC, Magalang Pampanga. The BS-Hospitality Management
students and their event organizer, Ms. Camille S. Nabong, are hosting the event.
Mr. Leonides Pea, AVP/Director of Cabin Crew Operations for Philippines Airlines
Express, and Mr. Clark Angelo V. Libaton, a Quick Service Attendant for Disney
Cruise Line, are the presenters for this event. These two excellent speakers cover
every aspect of how the tourism industry operates. They inform us of the
experiences and advantages we’ll have if we work in the hotel and tourism
industries. The occasion also features production-based entertainment numerous
students in the BS-Hospitality Management program participate actively in a game
called “guess the logo.”
Students majoring in hospitality management or other students participating in the
webinar will have the chance to listen and learn about how their individual future
goals must be accomplished, the difficulties they may encounter, and what they can
do to succeed in their goals.
VI. Learnings

The speakers who are invited to this event are excellent at what they do. They
provide us a lot of education, particularly on working in the hotel and tourism
industries. Because there are so many sites to go but so little time, the aviation
industry, as Mr. Leonides Pea noted, plays a significant role in the tourism industry.
In addition, he said that flying from Manila to London takes 15 hours and a total of
2140 hours, or almost 89 days. Since we only have 24 hours in a day, he claimed
that even if flying is expensive, it is priceless since it allows us to make the most of
our time. 90–95 percent of students studying hospitality and tourism, according to
Mr. Pea, dream of working as cabin crew. Mr. Pea talks about his professional
experiences and what we should be aware of in the airline industry. He also
discussed the potential pay when working for an airline, particularly if you travel, as
well as the advantages for you and your family.
Contrarily, Mr. Clark Angelo V. Libaton talked about jobs and advice for the cruise
line industry. Before boarding the cruise liner, he claimed to have undergone
rigorous safety training, including SOLAS, which stands for Safety of Life at Sea. He
also talked about how he handled and adjusted due to the protocols both before and
during the pandemic. Additionally, they must attend mandatory drills twice a
week. The SOLAS Is the drill. When we were on the cruise ship and away from our
families, Mr. Clark added, it was important for us to have friends, so we must learn
how to fit in. He added that when serving your guests on board, we must do our best.
He claimed that you may visit three to four countries on one voyage. Additionally, Mr.
Clark taught me that you shouldn’t remain with one organization if you want to
develop and leave your comfort zone. Make sure you go through both good and
terrible experiences in order to develop, find inspiration, improve yourself, and
appreciate the life you have.

VIII. Evaluation and Conclusion

The event satisfies me because of the knowledge and advice I received

about the career I hope to pursue someday. The event’s goal is to inform
students about everything that they should know. Need to know in dealing
in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. As a Hospitality Management
student, attending this event teaches me the skills I want to learn and the
experiences I want to have someday. I encountered some minor issues
while attending the event, one of which was a slow internet connection.
During the event, we had a slow internet connection, and one of the
speakers had the same problem. That is one of the minor issues during
the event because it interrupts the speaker and some of his discussion is
lost, but thankfully the flow of the event returns to normal after a few
minutes.

I would be willing to attend and listen if there were ever an event devoted
to the hospitality and tourism sector since it would be so educational and
because the presenters would have a wealth of expertise in their
profession. Many students pursuing careers in the hospitality and tourist
industries benefit from activities of this nature. Virtual events, in my
opinion, cannot take the place of live, in-person events because live
events are better because you can meet new people and network while
also delivering the message to the audience. Live events are also the best
because you can meet new people and network while attending them.
Additionally, it is more enduring and it is challenging to speak with others
because some are only joining for an attendance or certificate and did not
listen, making virtual communication more enjoyable. If I had to choose
between in-person and virtual events, I would choose in-person because
you can express your opinions to people without fearing that they won’t be
able to hear you, as with virtual events, due to a slow internet connection.
