To our beloved District supervisor Ma’am Merle Lopez, to our very
diligent and handsome ASDS Sir Magno Abueme And to our very hardworking principal mam Dionicia c figura. A wonderful day to all of you. I am presenting myself on behalf 90 teachers at Joaquin Guido Elementary School, to accept the challenge given to us. With this midyear theme: In service training a confident teacher. Which we successfully achieved our goals despite the fears and confusions in our heart. It is the toughest time due to pandemic that we are virtually educated and committed to learn and explore things like this to be a new normal educator. Just a quick story behind my appearance here. It was last Wednesday when mam bless chatted me, she said if I am willing to do the task of accepting the challenge, I said if there’s any other options before me. She said none with lol emoticon. Kidding aside, I was trying to refuse at first to that idea because I was too shy, I don’t have the courage to express myself. They say less talk, less mistakes. I am afraid of making mistakes. But I was WRONG. When I started drafting things, there’s a lot of emotions and ideas came to my mind. But I will simply be pointing out one, “making myself out on the box”. Indeed, this is true, lets imply this to us, teachers. We must learn to accept the challenge, the challenge of this new normal set-up. Most of our fellow teachers here are afraid of technical terms but here’s my word of encouragement: Don’t say you are too old of learning new things. According to Thomas Henry Huxle “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something.” We must be a risk-taker. There’s no harm on trying and exploring, if we fail, there’s a second chance. Every mistake is a new learning. Learning is a never-ending process; every human being keeps on learning till the end of life. Jean Piaget once said, “The principal goal of education is to create men who are capable of doing new things, not simply of repeating what other generations have done – men who are creative, inventive and discoverers.” Let’s develop our mind, get new knowledge and skills like this training, our inset. Only thus we will have the chance to become extraordinary person. A strong and a confident one. Edward Feigenbaum, who says, "We must be champions for our innovations. "The challenge to bring about the beauty of education for the Filipino learners. We are now 21st century teachers who are competent, confident and empowered to fulfil our duty as educators. We must be champions for the Standards and sometimes we must do so at a personal level. Do not throw the Standards over the wall and hope that the document will be picked up and used. We must reach out to professional development—pre-service and in-service—and to the systems into which the Standards will fit. We must be champions for change and for the use of these Standards. We must look for ways to broker the fit and cheerlead for the Standards. We must promote excitement about the work that has gone on before us. And with that, we say, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Let me end this speech with a thought to remember from John Wesley. “Do all the good you can by all the means you can in all the ways you can in all the places you can at all the times you can to all the people you can As long as ever you can.” And that’s all, thank you and have a great day everyone!
