Course Description: This three-week course will be focused on Complementary and Integrative
health and wellness. Week 1 will focus on Vitamins, Herbs, and Nutrition. Week 2 will focus on
complementary and integrative medicine and how it can help with mental health. Week 3 will
focus on mind and body health (i.e., spiritual or exercise). Through a combination of lectures,
discussions, and activities, students will learn about the benefits of different supplements, foods,
and practices, and gain an understanding of how these can be integrated into a healthy lifestyle
and to benefit their mental health.
Course Outcomes:
• Develop a basic understanding of how proper nutrients, herbs, and vitamins can benefit health
and wellness and how certain deficiencies can cause anxiety or other mental health issues.
•Understanding how to shop for supplements and what to look for in a specific
supplement/brand.
•Exploring the different ideas and beliefs behind contemporary and alternative medication (i.e.,
TCM, Ayurveda, Herbalism)
• Understanding spiritual health and the benefits.
•Knowing the different exercises that can be utilized to help mental health.

Late Policy: All assignments are expected to be completed by the end of the unit and turned in
before11:59pm EST. As this course is limited on time, all work is subject to be turned in on time.
Tutoring: For students needing assistance such as one on one time or other resources, they may
use the allotted office hours or may e-mail me for further information.
Assignments: Throughout this course, students will be required to complete three assignments.
There will be an assignment or activity every week. The assignments are expected to be turned
into the appropriate Dropbox by the end of the unit/week.
Discussion Boards: Each week, students are to complete the discussion board post and post an
original post to the board by Sunday of the unit at 12am. The post should be at least 100 words in
the original post. Subsequentially, students will need to reply to two fellow students. The replies
should be a minimum of 50 words.
