Health and Wellness 3-Day Course

Instructor Course Overview

Casey Ligon This 3-day course is designed to improve your knowledge on key concepts of health
and wellness topics. This course will emphasize how overall health and wellness can
be achieved by practicing a balance of all three key concepts. Students will learn
about important topics of nutrition, complementary and integrative medicines, and
benefits behind physical activity. Once completed, students will have a better
understanding of how these three topics when balanced together can enhance an
individual’s overall health within their mind, body, and spirit.

Course Outcomes

Course Outline

Day 1: Nutrition

 Introduction to nutrition basics including essential vitamins and minerals


 Key concepts on the importance of consuming a nutrient-dense diet
 Discussion on how a plant-based diet can easily be achieved
 Topics on how proper nutrition can prevent chronic diseases
 Understanding how to read a nutrition label

Day 2: Complementary & Integrative Medicine

 Introduction to all types of CIM


 Discussion on the benefits behind major types of CIM therapies
 Diving deeper into the world of Yoga
 Discussion on how incorporated mindfulness practices can enhance your overall health

Day 3: Physical Activity

 Introduction to the importance of physical activity for the human body


 Key concepts of the psychology of physical exercise
 Identifying the physical activity guidelines for all age groups
 Discussion on how exercise benefits the mind, body, and spirit.

Course Attendance

 This Health and Wellness course will take place over a 3-day period and will be held virtually through
Microsoft PowerPoint.
 Each class will be 90 minutes in length

Activities

 Each day students will engage in activities to apply their knowledge on topics discussed
 Day 1 Activity: Creating a sample 1-day meal plan that meets the daily requirements for vitamins and
minerals
 Day 2 Activity: Participating in a Mindful Yoga practice and writing a reflection
 Day 3 Activity: Writing out SMART goals in relation to physical activity
