II. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Prayer

A wonderful morning, “A wonderful morning, ma’am!”

class! How’s everyone “We’re all good, ma’am”

today? (Students will pray)

I’m glad to hear that. I hope that I can make

your day even better. Before we proceed with
our discussion, it is just right to ask for the
providence of our Almighty Father. May I ask
to lead us in a prayer.

2. Classroom Management
I would like to set a short reminder during the
class:

a. Mute yourself except when you have the

floor.
b. Raise your hand virtually for permission to
speak. (One person talks at a time.)
c. Keep your camera on for attendance
purposes.
d. Avoid distracting backgrounds or actions.
e. You can use the chat box for emergency
purposes but do not abuse the chat box. Type
only when necessary.

I hope our short reminder is clear. Do you “None, ma’am”

have questions?

Awesome!

3. Checking of Attendance

I will now check the attendance. Once called,

make sure that your camera is on, unmute
your microphone and say present. Ready? Students: “Present, ma’am!”
Let’s start.

Perfect! I am glad that everyone is here with

us today.

4. Recapitulation of the Lesson

Let us have a quick review. Yesterday, we

talked about Rhetorical Questions. Why don’t
we have a short review?

Can somebody tell me what rhetorical Student A: “Ma’am, based on my

questions are? Yes, . understanding, rhetorical questions can be
sarcastic, humorous, or reflective”

Very good, ! In addition to that,

rhetorical questions help to make the
speaker’s point clearer and more emphasized
by asking questions, but no answer is
expected from the audience.

How about you give me the benefits of using Student B: “Engage the audience, introduce
rhetorical questions, ? the topic, and increase the variety of your
presentation, ma’am”

Astonishing, ! How about ? Student C: “Ma’am, influence and persuade

the audience, specify specific points, and
make the listeners think about the topic”

Marvellous!

Great job, people of the world! It’s very

evident that you understood our previous
topic.

Let us now move forward and go to our next “Yes, ma’am!”

discussion. Are you ready?

Perfect!
B. Presentation of the Topic
1. Motivation

As we begin today’s discussion, allow me to

help you awaken and exercise your brain
cells.

We will first have a short game which is the “We are very excited, ma’am!”
Indoor Scavenger Hunt. Are you excited?

I’m glad to hear that. Let’s begin!

You will be given a list of things you need to

find. You only have one (1) minute to find the
objects. So, you have to find the objects as
fast as you can! After returning to your seats
at the end of the time, I will ask you to share
your findings with the class. Let's begin!
(The students will find the given objects
A. Something funny using the allotted time)
B. Something that you can't live without

Are you ready? One minute starts… now!

Time’s up! Go back to your seats.

Let us begin by sharing your thoughts and the

things you have found. Who would like to (Student D answers)
volunteer? Yes, ?

Fantastic! How about ? (Student E answers)

Incredible! Can we hear ? (Student F answers)

Fabulous! We’d like to hear as well from (Student G answers)

.

Excellent! Let’s have the last volunteer. Yes, (Student H answers)

?

Great job, everyone! May we all show on (The students will show the objects they
camera the things that we were able to find found)
earlier?

Wow! Thank you so much for your

participation.

What have you observed in the short Student I: “Ma’am, I have noticed that we
game/activity we just played? Yes, . were able to provide the things we needed
even though we had a limited time”

That’s true, . How about ? Student J: “Ma’am, I had so much fun and I
noticed that we were able to think, speak,
and explain our thoughts right away”

Great observation, . I hope that

everyone had fun and was able to activate
your critical thinking, reasoning, and speaking
skills.

Our activity earlier is connected to the topic

that we will discuss today. We will talk about
the Techniques in Public Speaking.

Are you ready to listen? If yes, give me your (The students will show their desired
desired virtual emoticon or emoji. emoticon)

Brilliant!

Just a quick reminder that if you wish to

answer, you may use the raise hand button.
Also, you may take notes during the
discussion. Is everything clear? “Yes, ma’am!”

Let’s begin.

2. Discussion Proper

Before we begin, I would like to ask you

something. Are you one of the students who is
very afraid of talking to a large group of
people? Is your voice shaking due to
nervousness? Or do you have a fear of
forgetting your lines and even doubting
yourself? If yes, this is the time for you to
overcome your fears, enhance, and practice
your speaking skills.

As we begin, what do you know about Public Student K: “Ma’am, public speaking is when
Speaking? Yes, . you stand in front of many people and
deliver a speech”

You got it right! In addition to that, Public

Speaking can cover a wide range of topics.
The objective of the speech might be to
instruct, influence, engage, educate, or
entertain the listeners.

Developing your public speaking skills can

increase your confidence and help you
overcome any speech-related anxiety you may
have. Effective public speaking skills can help
with career advancement, as they indicate
creativity, critical thinking skills, leadership
abilities, poise, and professionalism.

There are two (2) forms of Public Speaking. Student L: “A prepared speech, ma’am, is
The first one is a Prepared speech, and the when a speaker is given a topic in advance
second one is an Impromptu speech. Based and would have a lot of time to prepare. On
on your schema or prior knowledge, kindly the contrary, an impromptu speech means
differentiate the two. Yes, . you don't have time to research your topic.”

You got it right, . In a Prepared

speech, the speaker is given a chance to
prepare the topic in advance, has had time to
do background research on it, and has
practiced delivering the speech. On the other
hand, an Impromptu speech is when you're
asked to speak in public without prior notice.
You can be given a little or no time to
prepare.

To check if you understood the differences

between the two, you have to determine
whether the given situation is a prepared or “Yes, ma’am!”
impromptu speech. Ready?

1. You were invited to speak before a

commencement ceremony. (P)
2. You were asked to speak in a surprise
interview. (I)
3. You were asked to share your
knowledge about a topic on-the-spot. (The students will participate and answer)
(I)
4. A youth group requested you to serve
as a resource speaker. (P)
5. While attending a meeting, you were
unexpectedly asked to share your
experiences at your job. (I)

Now that you understand what Public

Speaking, Prepared and Impromptu speeches
are, let us talk about what makes a great
public speaker.

Techniques in Public Speaking:

1. Know your purpose

(The students will participate in the

Being sure of the purpose of your speech is discussion)
synonymous with knowing where to focus
your discussion. It may be as simple as to
inform, persuade, or inspire. If you were
certain about what you would want to speak
about from the very beginning, you would
most likely be able to avoid being side-
tracked or confusing your audience with
lengthy discussions that lead nowhere.

2. Be familiar with your topic

(The students will participate in the

discussion)
The best way to do this is to research. When
you are sure of every piece of information you
are presenting, you will be more confident.
This is also something that your audience will
usually notice and feel.

3. Consider your audience

(The students will participate in the

It is essential to be sure of the kind of people discussion)
you will be speaking to. Knowing your
audience will assist you in developing the
appropriate content, language, and techniques.
You cannot address a group of high school
students in the same way that you would a
group of professionals.
4. Plan ahead of time

Cramming will show in the way you speak (The students will participate in the
and behave in front of an audience. This is discussion)
something any speaker would not want to
happen. That is why planning everything is
the key to a successful speaking engagement.

5. Use non-verbal cues

The right number of gestures at the right time

is the key element of public speaking as these
movements convey ideas more clearly.
(The students will participate in the
However, there is a danger in overusing these
discussion)
gestures as they can become distracting.
Establishing eye contact with the audience
also works well in maintaining confidence
and establishing sincerity.

6. Remain calm

Whether you are delivering a prepared or

impromptu speech, maintaining composure
can always be an issue. The weeks of (The students will participate in the
planning and preparation may be put to waste discussion)
if you keep on making unnecessary
movements as a sign of nervousness. Taking a
deep breath and having a focused mind set
can do the magic of staying relaxed.
7. Practice

(The students will participate in the

discussion)

It takes a lot of practice and experience to be a

good and compelling speaker. Through
constant practice, one may be able to identify
areas that can be improved. Practice is the
major component of planning.

8. Watch your words

(The students will participate in the

discussion)

Your choice of words greatly affects how the

audience perceives the speech. One must be
careful enough not to use words that might
put his/her reliability and reputation in
jeopardy.

9. Speak with clarity

(The students will participate in the

discussion)
One must observe proper pronunciation,
stress, intonation, juncture, diction, and
pacing when delivering a speech. These are
just a few of the many elements that should
work together to ensure that the ideas in the
speech are clearly conveyed. This, however,
is not something one can learn overnight.
Consistent practice is likewise necessary.

10. Be open to questions and comments

(The students will participate in the

discussion)

Always bear in mind that you cannot please

everybody. It is essential to be open to
questions, comments, and even criticism.
These factors can be considered when
determining how to improve or continuously
refine one's style and craft.
3. Generalization

Finally, we are done with the discussion on

the Techniques in Public Speaking.

Do you have any questions or clarifications? “None, ma’am”

Does that mean you clearly understand the “Yes, ma’am”

lesson?

Great! Let me check your understanding of Student L: “Public speaking is when you
the discussion. Can somebody tell me what stand in front of many people and deliver a
Public Speaking is? Yes, . speech, either prepared or impromptu,
ma’am”

Marvellous! How about the difference of Student M: “Ma’am, a prepared speech is

Prepared and Impromptu Speech? Yes, when a speaker is given a lot of time to
. research and practice for a topic; while an
impromptu speech is when you are given
little or no time to prepare”

Correct! Who can give me the techniques in (The students will give the Techniques in
Public speaking? Yes, . Public Speaking)
Great job, class! I can see that you are now
ready to take on the activities I have prepared
for you.
