Amjad Khan Chowdhury

By utilizing the prospects of agro-based industry, who has become known as a successful
entrepreneur, he is Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury. He is the Chief Executive Officer of
PRAN RFL Group. Major General Amjad Khan Chowdhury was born in Natore in on 10
November 1937 and died on 8 July 2015 in Duke University Hospital, North Carolina, United
States from cardiac complications and diabetes. Son of Natore’s Chowdhury family Amjad Khan
Chowdhury’s father is Mr Ali Kashem Khan Chowdhury. Mr Amjad’s wife, Mrs Sabiha Amjad.
This couple has four children and they are, Azar J .K. Chowdhury, Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, Dr
Sheira Haque, and Uzma Chowdhury. He was educated at Dhaka and graduated from Pakistan
Military Academy & Australian Staff College.

Amjad Khan Chowdhury joined Pakistan Army in 1956. He was posted in 29 Cavalry as
a Major during March 1971 and was sent to West Pakistan after the start of the Bangladesh
Liberation War. Repatriating to Bangladesh in 1973 he held many important positions and he
retired in 1981 with the rank of Major General.

After retiring from the Army, Soldier-turned-businessman and started his business career
in 1982. The sheer struggle he had to undertake in the starting years amazed him quite a bit.
Having served the nation with blood and sweat for decades, and having handled funds amounting
to roughly BDT 300 crores as Quarter Master General (QMG), he assumed it would be easier for
him to secure finance for his own business. One refusal to another landed him at the office of the
then Managing Director of Janata Bank Mr. Aziz Ahmed. He placed great confidence in him
endeavors and sanctioned a loan of 20 lacs. In those days it was quite a significant amount. his
wife owned a house at RK mission road, passed on to her by her parents, which he kept for
mortgage. he sold three quarters of my pension fund at about BDT 1,90,000. Putting all that
together he acquired the company Rangpur Foundry Limited. His dreams of shinning fields of
crops soon encountered a harsh reality check and facing a lot of difficulties, he refused to give up
on his business ethics and take part in any malpractices. He believed in Himself business plan
and knew he could turn it around. It gives him great joy today to look at Rangpur Foundry
Limited as one of the flagship businesses of the Pran and RFL.
