Weekly Supervision Notes

1. This week at my internship I had fun. I was helping some of the employees in the agency

pack different items for Girl Scouts in Ny.

2. By doing this task I learned that everyone has their own way of learning new things. I

saw how some of the employees developed ways to pack each item really fast and at

one point the supervisor tried to make the other group of employees do it the same way

as the “fast group” but  they were getting confused and it didn’t work. Which leads me to

the conclusion that what works for others does not necessarily have to work for

everyone.

3. I felt uncomfortable when the supervisor tried to make others work in a way they

probably didn’t understand or just wasn’t their way of completing the task. But I also

understand why the supervisor tried to do this. More than 2000 items had to be

individually packed by the end of that day, and he was dealing with a lot of pressure from

the shipment company that was supposed to pass by to pick up these items.

4. I explained to my supervisor that trying to change some of the employees' ways of

completing this task would take longer. At that time, I said that because that was

honestly my belief and I felt like everyone was comfortable doing it their own way. He

said he understood my point but just wanted to see if some of them would pick up a

different way of getting the job done.

5. My supervision experience so far has been great with this Internship. Mr. Arbizu is an

empathetic person who cares about his team. He understands each one's capabilities,

weaknesses and tries to challenge them for the best. However, even though he is in the

agency everyday he should improve getting closer to his employees so that they don’t

feel uncomfortable around him.

6. For next week I’m planning on working, filing some papers in the office and organizing

the office a little bit. It has been a mess in the office area with all the guys trying to finish

this project on time for the Girls Scouts. Also, I want to try to explain to the guys that it is

important for us to keep the working space organized and neat since we all share the

same space.

7. Two things that I learned from this week's experience that might be helpful in my future

career is that people learn at their own pace and how to be patient. Sometimes we want

to rush things and most improvements take time. Most of the time this happens because

we focus more on the outcome than in the process.
