Assessment Task 3.2

The inaccuracy of the accounts demonstrates that perhaps we should not rely on a

single source of information. As students, we rely heavily on the information provided by the

teachers and have a tendency to believe them immediately away. I'm not suggesting they

give us false information. I only wanted to underline the necessity of constant learning

outside of the debates and get additional information about it. For example, when conducting

an experiment, we gather data and analyses the results. And if you want to be accurate and

precise, you must repeat the experiment and evaluate the data to determine whether it

satisfies you that the data is accurate and precise.

Kudos to the accounts of Antonio Pigafetta and Gines de Mafra, who were regarded

as first-hand witnesses to the expedition. The question here is why they have different

accounts when they are on the same team, doing the same thing, and witnessing the same

event. Or did someone post the incorrect account and the correct one? And if there is any

missing information in someone's story, we can simply fill it in and use the missing bits from

another account as long as they are very consistent. They still have some of the same tales

stated in the Battle of Mactan, such as some of their troops burning the natives' dwellings, as

well as any other similar stated accounts that we can interpret. It's only that the majority of

the stated accounts are incongruent, and it's not just me who can raise such concerns.

We all have the right to know what really happened by seeking information, and if someone

asks me which of these accounts I believe, I will definitely do what I stated in the first part of

my essay, but after comparing the two accounts, I will choose Antonio Pigafetta's account

because he is skilled and tested. You can't just hire a subpar scribe, especially because this

mission is a game changer at the time. But, in general, what is significant here is that we

were able to scrutinize the aforementioned occurrence, and we owe them thanks for what

they did.
