PERFORMANCE TASK

Legalization of Divorce
Marriage is a wonderful thing for anyone to experience. Their vows include the
phrase "till death do us part," so it's meant to last everlasting. It is such a sacred union, not only
between men and women, but also between other genders, that it must be cherished and
treasured. Apart from the Vatican, the Philippines is the only sovereign state that has not made
divorce legal, which is a huge pain for anyone who is experiencing domestic violence. Men and
women should be able to get out of a bad marriage as quickly as possible. Divorce is very
widespread nowadays, especially in our country, where many people wanted to end their
promised vows due to abuse, cheating, financial instability, lack of communication, lack of
commitment, and other factors. Although it has the potential to harm a family, it is also the only
reason for them to live in peace. But what happens if the two couples' love fades? What
happens if their communication breaks down? What if there has already been physical,
emotional, or mental abuse? What if your fairytale romance turns into a nightmare? Is it still
worth staying or is it better to leave?
Many children are affected by their parents' separation, but they will suffer even
more if they remain together without the love and care they once had. The negative
consequences of divorce include educational failure, bullying, sexual activity, poverty, loss of
will, and so on. Communication, guidance, guidance and counseling, incorporating religion into
marriage, worrying about the welfare of the children, sharing of events such as celebrating each
other's birthdays, promotions, and going on a weekend getaway together are all ways for a
family to avoid divorce. However, this will not occur if there is a wider issue within a family
because not every relationship can be repaired, making divorce a necessary step in the healing
process and moving forward to a healthier future. By removing that option, those who are
vulnerable to the consequences of a toxic relationship are prevented from building a better
future for themselves and their children. When life between a woman and her husband becomes
unbearable, the only thing they can do is file for divorce. When they are detached, their children
will see and feel that love is such a horrible thing, leading them to believe that other people
should not have it as well, directing them to resort to violence or even bullying others. Children
will feel emotionally fragile and believe that they are the only ones whose family is damaged. If
the woman in the relationship did not have a job before the divorce, she would struggle to
support her children, but if she is financially stable, she can take custody of her children.
Marriage is such an important sacrament in our country because it is the bonding of two people
through love.
As someone who wants divorce to be legalized as soon as possible, I still want it
to be pro-poor, because divorce is anti-poor since it is extremely costly, and people at the
bottom of the economic pyramid cannot afford it. If it becomes pro-poor, it will be easier for
people who cannot afford such a large sum of money to leave an abusive relationship in peace.
Unfortunately, people often used to rarely discuss failed marriages because they believed that
bringing up marital problems was taboo, which caused people in bad marriages to suffer.
Annulment is toxic to couples and children, as Risa Hontiveros explained, and divorce gives
families a second chance to be happy. It's just a shame that the poor Filipinos bear the brunt of
the divorce ban.
Reflection:
1. The performance task is a bit hard as you need to research to deepen your knowledge about
the specific issue or topic
2. Written work, as you can answer the questions right away as it is found in the SiPacks itself
