What is Symbol/Symbolism?
Symbol is an object, word, or action that stands for
something else, without natural relationship, that is
culturally defined. Symbols such as gestures, sign,
objects, signals, words, help people understand the world.
On the other hand, symbolism is when something represents
abstract ideas or concepts; it assigns names, denominations,
and defines relations between various elements (actors,
actions, goals, means, objects, values, etc.) articulated
within the narrative.

Political Symbol

Political symbols are representations that are used


to signify a political perspective. Flags, logos,
acronyms or banners are among the most common emblems
of political inclinations. Colors often represent the
sentiments and ideologies in political symbols

Functions of symbol and symbolism

*Used to preserve traditions or belief of a certain group of people.


*Contains the "face" and "hidden" values, the hidden value, in a
functional perspective, holds greater meaning and importance
than the face value.
*Used to create movements , spread ideas, and share advocacies

Significance of Symbols and Symbolism
As rational thinkers, we have been making and giving
meaning to symbols for a long time. Symbols have been
part of our lives and growth as humankind. The usage of
symbols and symbolism have given mankind an avenue to
communicate with different groups of people, influence
others of different ideologies, and preserve values that
were transferred from generations to generations.
What is Practices?
It is an application of form,
manner, and order of conducting legal
suits and prosecutions. A systematic
usual way of doing of a person or a
group of people.
What is Political Practices?
It is the practice of a
nation's political views, in
terms of government, the body
politic, public administration,
policy-making, and etc.
What is the Philippines' Political Practice?
The Philippines is a republic with a
presidential form of government wherein power is
equally divided among its three branches:
executive, legislative, and judicial. The nation
is democratic, with a president who is both the
head of state and the head of government and is
chosen directly by the people. The executive
branch is headed by the president, who also holds
great political influence.
Examples
Political Dynasty - A political family is a family in which multiple members
are involved in politics. Members may be related by blood or marriage;
often several generations or multiple siblings may be involved. Notable
Philippine political dynasties include the Marcos, Aquino, Binay, Macapagal,
Duterte, and Roxas families.
Filipino Clans - These groups ranged from various Igorot tribes, a group
that includes the Bontoc, Ibaloi, Ifugao, Isneg, Kalinga, Kankanaey and
Tinguian, who built the Rice Terraces. They also covered a wide
spectrum in terms of their integration and acculturation with lowland
Christian Filipinos.
Palakasan System - refers to a system getting advantage when
having or knowing someone powerful from the office that can
recommend you. This usually happens within government
offices.

Trapo (Traditional Politics) - a politician perceived as belonging


to a conventional and corrupt ruling class.

Catholic Church Influence - The denomination of Christianity


that became most embedded in Filipino culture is Catholicism,
which was introduced in the Philippines during the early colonial
period by the Spanish. Catholic ideas continue to inform beliefs
throughout Filipino society such as the sanctity of life and
respect for hierarchy.
What is Economic Practices?
Economic practices consider the system of
production, resource allocation, and distribution of
goods and services with respect to demand and
supply between economic agents .As a result ,an
economic system is a variant of the social system in
which it exist.

What is the Philippines' Economic Practices?


In terms of savings, one of the traditional way of saving money
in Filipino is using 'alkansiya'. It is where they Filipino use
bamboo as a vault to their money until it becomes full and ready
to be withdrawn by its owner. Another way of economic practice
of Filipino 'paluwagan' it is a group savings where group of
people agrees to give money to a money mananger, who is also
part of this group and manages the money. The money will cycle
through out the group.
Example
The Classic Alkansya - alkansya come in any
forms, from bamboo to cans. It is also known
as still bank used to save money.

Paluwagan - similar to Rotating Savings


and Credit Association. Paluwagan is an
informal money-lending system.
Significance of Practices
Making a commitment to practice is essential to
maximize the impact of training. After all, practice is
the only way to become proficient in a new skill or
behavior. As leaders, we need to embrace the
discomfort of being beginners in order to continue to
grow and improve.
