TEMPORARY DIPOLES

Electrons clouds are constantly in motion ,

Partial charges change very rapidly

If one molecule has a temporary dipole the partial charges exert a force onto the nearby molscule

One this happens it induces this neighbouring molecule which results in a induced dipole interaction

 Permanent dipole-dipole interactions are only possible in molecules that contain a

permanent dipole.

o So they are only found between polar molecules.

repel
Electron pairs  repel each other. Electron pairs try to get to a
separation repulsion
position of maximum  separation OR minimum
repulsion (this is a different way of saying the same thing - when pairs are far
away they repel each other less).
