Now, let’s head on to discovering what speech styles

are. Are you ready? Kindly read what’s on the slide,
please.

When we say a degree of formality on how we will

categorize the use of language.
Efefefef

Speech style has two sub category which is formal and

informal language.
Let us discuss first the formal, can someone read the
formal and informal language
Formal language is less personal than informal
language. It is used when writing for professional or
academic purposes. Formal language does not require
colloquialisms, contractions, or first-person pronouns
such as “I” or “We”.
Informal language is more casual and spontaneous. It
is used when communicating with friends or family
either in writing or in conversation
When we say formal language, it is used in the
academic setting and business setting where people are
very much aware that the language used to be less
personal. Do you understand?
Yes sir.

While information is more casual communication, like

with our friends, and family. Understand?
Yes, sir.
Very good, I have here Examples of formal and
informal language. can someone read it?
Contractions
Informal: The improvements can’t be introduced due
to funding restrictions.
Formal: Improvements cannot be introduced due to
funding restrictions.

This means the Contraction is when two words are

combined and shortened in form. What about the
Phrasal verbs, please read it.
Phrasal verbs
Informal: The balloon was blown up for the
experiment.
Formal: The balloon was inflated for the experiment.
A verb becomes a phrasal verb with the addition of
one preposition. Lastly, regarding slang/
Colloquialisms please read it.
Slang/Colloquialisms
Informal: The mob was very rowdy during the protest
against cuts to university funding.
Formal: The crowd was very rowdy during the protest
against the cuts to university funding.
When we say Slang/Colloquialisms those are terms
that are known in a certain locality.
Efefefef

The first speech style that will be discussed is frozen,

please read the definition of Frozen.
Frozen is the most formal communicative style that is
usually used during respectful events and ceremonies.
It is also used when one shows hesitation, disinterest,
or prejudice. Frozen speech is used generally in a very
formal setting, does not require any feedback from the
audience, most formal communicative style for
respectful situations.

Frozen it is language that is frozen in type and in form

meaning it will never be change anymore. And this are

speech style that we have discussed today. And apply
it in our daily life. Understand?

D. Generalization
What have you learned after hearing everything that Sir we have learned the degree of formality of a
was said during the discussion, speech and the two sub-category of language which
the formal and informal language also the five types of
speech style
Can you enumerate the five styles of speech? Sir the frozen, formal, Intimate, Casual and
Consultative

Very good!

E. Application

Now, do you believe you’re making an impact with all

these speech styles we’ve learned today?
Yes sir. It all boils down to choosing the right words.
Choosing the right word can help your readers or
listeners “see” what you see. It lets them understand
why what you're telling them matters. A different
word might not carry the same weight or feeling and
could fail to communicate your message.

A very good answer! Now class, prepare yourselves,

we’ll be assessing what you’ve learned for today’s
lesson, okay?
