1. Why are we losing listening?

As new generations form with each year that passes by, it is most likely to happen that there
are things that we might gain or lose. On Julian Treasure’s ted talk – 5 Ways to Listen Better, he
specified two reasons why we are losing our listening. First of all, different ways of Recording
were invented such as writing, audio recording and video recording. With this, he stated that
accurate and careful listening has disappeared. Secondly, the world is becoming noisy and that it
is too hard and tiring to listen. People take refuge in headphones and the public places turns into
millions of tiny little personal sound bubbles. He also highlighted that the art of conversation is
being replaced by personal broadcasting dangerously. People are becoming more and more
dependent and impatient towards these factors which can become a serious problem.

2. What will be negative consequences of not listening?

Chaos, misunderstandings, and divisions or boundaries between people are the most likely to
happen when the presence of listening is none. Moreover, listening without being conscious about
it can also lead to disagreements and conflicts since it is truly required in order to create
understanding between conversing people. In addition, it can also ruin relationships and bonds that
could result to disunity which can be a terrifying thing to happen.

3. What’s the importance of listening?

Listening is the key to read and understand, extract every message being received. It also
results to effective communications and healthy engagements between people. Moreover, it is
great a part of one’s every day life and it helps a person achieve a productive way of living. People
can help others just by merely listening especially when they’ve become an outlet for feelings.
Listening is very important because it creates unity, understanding and order in everything.

4. What’s the importance of listening to you?

Growing up from an infant to adult, listening has been a part of our lives. It requires
consciousness in order to understand something. For me, listening is important to achieve empathy
especially in building healthy relationships with other people. It serves as a gateway in order to
understand situations of others. Moreover, listening is the key to have effective learning because
it helps you absorb more and interpret facts that are being delivered to you. Indeed, listening plays
a great role because everyone can understand each other without conflicts therefore resulting to
making everyone’s life easier.
5. Narrate some stories taken from your experiences about the negative consequences of not
listening to your parents, teachers and elders.
Every time I fail to listen to my parents especially if what they are saying is for my own good,
I tend to have regrets after. As a person who grew up believing things about karma like if I don’t
listen to my parents, something bad or disappointing will happen in which this belief really does
happen to me. It also felt like our bond and relationship is being affected. On the other hand, I also
experienced being in a class who got scolded and reported by our classroom adviser due to failure
in following instructions and orders which resulted to having a barrier between our relationship. I
also had this traumatic experience back then with my grandmother wherein she had a small
accident because of my stubbornness and me not listening to her. Until now, my conscience and
guilt are still affecting me and my way of thinking.
