QUESTION 1.
(a) Briefly, but clearly, explain how decisions are made using each of the ethical approaches below.
Utilitarianism:

The morality of a certain choice is determined by the total sadness it will cause vs the total happiness it will
cause, for example one person paying for ten people’s food is 10 people happy vs 1 person unhappy so it is
deemed a moral decision by utilitarianism

Liberalism/Relativism:

Liberalism states that one can do whatever they want aas long as it does not infringe on another’s rights as a human.

Catholic Virtue Based Ethics:

Catholic virtue-based ethics judges what is moral or not based on what is said in the bible.

(b) What is one problem with the NON-Religious (Secular) approaches to decision-making?

Each person will have a slightly different interpretation of what is right or wrong while secular approaches have a

standard that is written out.

TEN COMMANDMENTS
Write the 10 commandments (in order) –Take care with your spelling.

(a) Name (1 mark for each) and briefly describe (1 mark for each) the seven virtues.

Theological virtues
1 Faith (Belief in God)

2 Hope (Believing that God has a plan for everyone and that everything will work out)

3 Generosity (Giving to others that are less fortunate to you)

Moral (Cardinal) virtues


1 Prudence (Using good judgement to make the right decisions)

2 Justice (knowing what is right)

3 Temperance (remaining calm)

4 Fortitude (Having mental strength)

(b) Virtues need to be developed. Choose one of the cardinal virtues and explain practical actions a young man could
take to deliberately develop the virtue in himself
