REFLECTION

After reading Laurie Tricamo’s article “Mult-iliteracies, Multi-modalities, and social

studies education”, I realized how crucial understanding and learning about multi-literacies,
multi-modalities, and social studies education are in everyone’s lives. It is not only for
educators, but for all humans. Simply because being multi-literate entails not only being able
to read textual messages but also being capable of interpreting text in a broad sense, such as
symbols, images, music, dance, drama, and so on. In addition, we use multimedia and other
technological tools, such as the internet, to construct meaning, learn, and interact with others.

Being multi-literate entails understanding multiculturalism and respecting diversity,

which is reflected in effective global interaction, and it provides a framework for
understanding how to teach productively with multimodalities.

And being multimodal is also vital component of social interactions the reason behind
is that it allows us to communicate our ideas, thoughts, feelings, and opinions. To make
ourselves understood, we usually use gestures, facial expressions, speech, and the likes.

Hence, by teaching social studies with a focus on multi-literacies and multimodalities,

students can be encouraged to engage with complex ideas in a variety of ways. Students
actively collaborate with historical inquiries and think creatively about the past using this
approach, leading in a synthesis of ideas and projects that are modern and relevant.

As a result, these are extremely beneficial because multi-literacy learning develops

high-comprehension reading skills, good writing skills, speaking skills, and mastery of various
media. And multimodal allow us, particularly me as a student, to make prolific and purposeful
decisions about how effectively communicate to different audiences.

Therefore, those valuable lessons are essential in socializing with variety of people, and
it also make our lives more proficient and better.
