Title/ Topic for Survey: IMPACT OF READING EXERCISES IN THE ACADEMIC

PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICS OF GRADE 2 TO 6 PUPILS OF BACO CATHOLIC

SCHOOL INC.: BASIS FOR A MATHEMATICAL INTERVENTION ACTIVITY

Reason for choosing the topic:

The outbreak brought by COVID-19 affects the whole world including our country.

Lots of changes happened in diverse sectors of our country including the education sector.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious matter. According to WHO, anyone can get sick with

COVID-19 and become seriously ill or die at any age. For this reason, the Department of

Education immediately released an order to prevent the spread of the virus in different

schools. Based on DM No.11, s. 2020, schools should coordinate with the DOH for the

implementation of its guidelines in response to the situation, including any decision for

school/office lockdown or suspension of classes/work in specific localities should arise. As a

result, schools faced a very unexpected situation. Students are not allowed to go to school

because of the threat of the virus and it generates very challenging problems for the school

and all the teachers.

Baco Catholic School Inc. as an institution also faced the same problem. On March 19,

2020, the school declared a total lockdown wherein the school personnel and all the pupils

were not allowed to go to school without further notice. In the succeeding year, Baco

Catholic School Inc. implemented a modular learning modality to ensure the continuity of

learning of their pupils. The modality was undertaken for more than two (2) years, and it

ended last May 2022.
