Data Centre Requirements to be considered in the new
building construction as a response to the inquiry from the
construction team. Defining Data Centre Purpose & Capacity! Our planned data centre is built for the purpose of the Bank’s main DC and can serve as a collocation service for the Bank’s stakeholders. The Capacity of this data centre relies on its infrastructure and facility. We planned to build a data centre with 50+ number of racks grouped in to two or three Containment. Space requirement determination The following are Spaces required and their respective floor area; Server room = 180m² Power room = 30m² NOC room = 30m² SOC room = 20m² Staging room = 20m2 Cylinder room = 10m2 Ceremony room = 20m2 Nap room = 12 m² Telecom room = 15m² 3rd party room = 30m² Battery room = 25m² Store = 20m² Corridor for Circulation = 25m² Total area ≈ 440 m² Floor Height determination We have considering raised floor, false Ceiling and Mechanical Ventilation. Therefore, it is required to have 4.2 meters of floor height. Floor Load Bearing Capacity Based on the TIA942 standard recommendation, the DC floor load bearing capacity requirement should be minimum 150 psf and recommended 250 psf (minimum 7.18 KN/m2, and recommended 11.9KN/m2). psf (Pownd per square feet) Floor reservation Due to high demand in floor loading capacity and of other Special requirements of data centre environment, it is recommended to implement the DC at lower floors of the building, specifically the first floor. Data Centre implementation Site requires special security and Safety fulfilment. Regarding the power demand Allocating 12 kW per rack, we will demand minimum of 50x12 = 600kW for IT equipment only and from the Data Centre best power Consumption practice (Power Usage effectiveness, PUE=1.2) for Mechanical, Lighting & Other loads, this can consume about 120% of the IT loads. Thus, 1.2x600 = 720 kW. In general (600+ 720) kW = 1320 kW Approximately, Total power required for DC will become ≈ 1250KW = 1.25MW The floor area required for this generator is approximately ≈ 30m 2 As we are planning to implement TIER III+ (TIER-IV ready) Data Centre these power source shall be (N+1) redundant. Hence, (2x 30) = 60m² total floor area is required for this generator. Note: Consider additional space for fuel truck access. UPS Requirement All IT and Mechanical loads including HVAC shall be supplied from the UPS of required size. Remember the UPS Supplying the IT loads shall be N+1 redundant. Hence, Only for UPS Supplying the IT loads we demand 800kW X 2 = (10m2 x 2) = 20m2. Allocate free space for maintenance and circulation. Note: This has been considered in power room space allocation. Ups Supplying Mechanical and Other leads can be considered in UPS of the building. Data Centre Low voltage switchgear (LVSG) The Standard demands a power System that is not affected by an outage on the building. Thus, we require independent power system distribution path. This can be achieved by a separate LVSG dedicated for data centre that can be implemented in building power room. Generator fuel tank Size determination As per diesel manufacturing standard a 1250KW diesel generator consumes 260 liters of fuel per hour. It is recommended to reserve a fuel of 72 hours full load generator capacity in the external fuel tank with built in automatic refill system and fuel level indicator. Therefore, total external fuel tank requirement will be, 72 x 260 = 18720 ≈ 20,000 As we have two diesel generators, 20,000 x 3/2 = 30,000 litres. But, this can be considered in a place where building fuel tank can be placed. Floor sharing For ease of Communication and fast response we recommend Other IT (IS) staff like; Computing, Networking, Data base and Core banking will be nearby (on the same floor level but completely separated from the DC facility. HVAC indoor and Outdoor unit Space Requirements In determining air conditioner size, using the simplified method 75% heat is expected to be from the IT equipment loads. 25% heat is expected to be from the lighting, UPS, Personnel & power distribution system. Therefore, a total of 800KW Capacity HVAC is required. Therefore, the outdoor Unit of this HVAC demands a space of 25 m2 approximately. Freight Elevator requirement The data centre will have heavy Equipment like HVAC, UPS and Battery. Thus we shall have a freight elevator of 2000 kg minimum. General Requirements For greater Safety & Security requirements the Data Centre environment shall be; Far away from wet zones of the building There shall no Canteen nearby The building floors above and below the data centre shall be specially treated for water proofing. The Spacing between columns of the building shall attain maximum distance possible using best Structural wisdom and state of the art technology. There shall be sufficient access and circulation space allocated for fuel truck and fire truck, to able access the fuel tank place and the DC for fire fighting respectively. The space allocated for data centre implementation shall consider air flow efficiency and access to utilities. Fire Alarm Systems The DC will have a dedicated and separate FM200 Fire alarm and suppression system which can be implemented during DC construction. Structural Network Cabling The structural network cabling that will be installed for the DC will be handled with the DC construction project. But we expect tapping of telecom connectivity service through two independent Internet Service providers (ISP). In addition, regarding the data connectivity infrastructure of the new building, every connectivity will be sourced from the floor where the DC is residing, and at each floor of the building a data network connectivity termination box is required from which each end devices will get IS based services.
