INSULATION
SCOPE
The purpose of this specification is for providing guidelines during field application works of
insulation to be executed for project DED EXPANSION NICKEL HEAP LEACH 5.000 T/Y.
The CONTRACTOR shall ensure that all equipment and services supplied meet the requirements
of this specification, and the codes, standards and specifications nominated herein, and shall be
applies to the following project :
REFERENCE
The latest edition of following publications shall be considered as an integral part of this
specification. If there are any conflicts between these codes and other related documents,

Applicable code for this project accordance with ASME B31.3 Process Piping.
2.3 General
The pipe line numbering system shall be formatted as per stated on P&ID.
GENERAL REQUIREMENT
Piping shall be insulated for the purposes of conserving heat, maintenance of process temperature,
condensate prevention and personnel protection.
Contractor has to provide shop drawings detailing all typical and specialized methods for fabricating
and installing all insulation, jackets and weatherproofing for all items requiring insulation.
MATERIAL
4.1 General
The handling of all material shall be undertaken safely and in such a manner as to ensure that
no damage is incurred.
Contractor shall be keep all completeness document of manufacturer, and all materials must
be protected from damage that could occur.
The material used for thermal insulation is generally such lose mineral wool, calcium silicate,
perlite, etc. Calcium Silicate is preferred for easily during installation. However, other material
application may be used corresponding approval by BMR.
a. Wire
Fastening insulation wire shall be 16 gauge, 1.6mm diameter galvanized steel for fastening
insulation.
b. Band
The banding material shall be stainless steel or galvanized steel. Where size of the two
material type is 12 mm wide, 0.5 mm thick.
c. Cladding
Cladding shall be stainless steel without corrugation, with the minimum thickness 0.4 mm.
SPECIFICATION FOR PIPING THERMAL
INSULATION
d. Sealing compound
A high temperature sealant shall be used for sealing joint.
e. Pop Rivets and Screw
If used, pop rivets shall be aluminium or galvanized steel with both shaft and rivet heads
made of same material. Minimum size is 4 mm diameter by 8 mm long. Screws shall be
stainless steel pan head or hex head slotted self-tapping sheet meta screws not less than
10 gauge by 19 mm.
APLICATION REQUIREMENTS
5.1 General
Any piping which is normally cold shall be painted accordance with Doc No. BMR-QAC-PRC-
ST-0002 Painting Procedures.
The insulating materials shall be protected against rain and water, during and after application.
All surfaces to be insulated shall be cleaned of all dirt, oil, grease and other foreign matters.
Insulation adjacent to flanges shall be installed in a manner to permit removal of flange bolting
without damage to the insulation. The insulation shall be stopped short of the flanges by a
distance equal to the stud or bolt length plus 25mm on each side of the flange.
SPECIFICATION FOR PIPING THERMAL
INSULATION
Valves and special fittings insulation, shall be corresponding with approval written by BMR.
Whether need or not for installation
Where wall thickness measurement points are located under insulation cladding, a 50 mm dia.
hole with a 100 mm dia. screwed on aluminium cover shall be made in the insulation. The ID
number shall be marked next to the cover.
Monitoring window shall be in four point on pipe circle at every 6 meters.
Note : Provision of monitoring window corresponding with approval written by BMR. Whether
need or not for installation.
