Met de kerstvakantie in aantocht willen we u graag nogmaals attenderen op de aankomende editie

van Dutch Oxford Schools. Omdat u zich in voorgaande jaren heeft ingeschreven of  op andere
wijze interesse heeft getoond*, ontvangt u deze mail met de volgende informatie: 
 Updates rondom covid-19;
 Alle praktische informatie over het toernooi;
 Twee nieuwe prijscategorieën! 
Updates rondom covid-19
In verband met het huidige maatregelenpakket hebben we besloten om Dutch Oxford Schools
2022 online te organiseren. Dat betekent dat het toernooi op Zoom plaatsvindt en van 9:30 tot 18:15
zal duren, inclusief een debatworkshop aan het begin van de dag, pauzes, en de prijsuitreiking aan het
einde van de dag. Ook wordt het inschrijfgeld verlaagd naar 25 euro per team. Meer details vindt u
onder 'praktische informatie'. 
 
Praktische informatie
Het Nederlandse Oxford Schools toernooi is een ééndaags Brits Parlementair (BP) toernooi dat wordt
gebruikt als voorronde voor de grote finaledag in Engeland. Andere voorrondes vinden plaats in het
Verenigd Koninkrijk, Canada, Ierland, Hong Kong, en Slovenië. Aan het eind van elke voorronde
worden de beste teams geselecteerd. Zij mogen in maart in Oxford met elkaar de strijd aangaan om de
meest prestigieuze Angelsaksische scholieren titel te bemachtigen. Het Wolfert van Borselen
Tweetalig in Rotterdam organiseert de Nederlandse voorronde: een op zichzelf staand prachtig
toernooi, én een buitenkansje voor scholieren om mee te dingen naar een grote internationale
debatprijs. In het bijgevoegde document vindt u meer informatie over de debatvorm, Brits

Dit schooljaar is Oxford Schools op zondag 6 februari 2022. Alle belangrijke informatie vindt
u op onze Facebook pagina (Dutch Oxford Schools), Instagram (@wolfertdebate), of website
(www.oxfordschools.nl).
De belangrijkste informatie op een rijtje: 
·  Het toernooi vindt plaats op 6 februari 2020. Deelnemers moeten zich om 9:30 melden in de
Zoom, waarvoor zij de link een week voor aanvang ontvangen. Het toernooi duurt tot 8:15. 
·  Voordat de debatrondes beginnen verzorgen de Oxford-juryleden een uitgebreide
workshop waarin debatvaardigheden en de BP-stijl worden behandeld. Er zijn twee
workshops: één voor beginners en leerlingen die het format nog niet kennen, en één voor
leerlingen die het format al kennen. Deze workshop is een uitstekende kans voor leerlingen
om het format te leren kennen en/of hun debat skills te verbeteren. 
·  Geen voorbereide stellingen: Om het toernooi spannend te houden maken we de stellingen
op de dag zelf pas bekend.
·  We garanderen dat de jurering en feedback van hoog niveau is: zowel de Oxford-
juryleden als ervaren Nederlandse studenten debaters zijn aanwezig om teams te jureren.
·  De leerlingen maken natuurlijk kans op deelname aan het grote toernooi in Oxford! 
·  De deelnamekosten bedragen slechts 25,- euro per team van 2 leerlingen. Er is geen
limiet aan de hoeveelheid teams die per school mee mogen doen.
 ·  Hoewel de debatten en de workshops in het Engels zijn, doen er tijdens de  Nederlandse
voorronde voornamelijk Nederlandse teams mee. Het is dus absoluut niet noodzakelijk
om tweetalig opgeleid te zijn om aan het debattoernooi mee te doen.

worden. 
Let goed op, één team bestaat uit twee debaters. Uw school kan een onbeperkt aantal teams
sturen. U kunt zich nog inschrijven tot zondag 16 januari 2022, daarna sluit de inschrijving. U
kunt natuurlijk ook altijd naar dit mailadres mailen om meer informatie in te winnen, wij
beantwoorden uw vragen graag.
Twee nieuwe prijscategorieën! 
Behalve de traditionele "Beste sprekers" en "Beste teams" categorieën, zijn er dit jaar twee
nieuwe prijscategorieën: "Beste nieuwkomer" en "Beste onderbouwteam". De "Beste
nieuwkomer" wordt gekozen uit de deelnemende scholen die niet deelnamen aan ten minste één
van de afgelopen vier edities van Oxford Schools. Het "Beste onderbouwteam" wordt gekozen uit
de teams waarvan beide sprekers in het Nederlandse schoolsysteem in klas 3 of lager zitten, of in
het internationale schoolsysteem in grade 9 of lager.

Updates with regards to covid-19
Due to the current measures revolving covid-19, we have decided to host Dutch Oxford Schools
2022 online. This means that the tournament will be taking place on Zoom from 9:30 until 18:15,
including a debate workshop at the start of the day, breaks, and a prize ceremony at the end of the day.
Moreover, the registration fee will be reduced to 25 euros per team. You can find more details in the
next section.
 
Practical information
The Dutch Oxford Schools tournament is a one-day British Parliamentary debate tournament, which
serves as the preliminary round for the larger international Oxford Schools finals day held
in Oxford each March. Other preliminary rounds take place in the United Kingdom,  Canada, Ireland,
Hong Kong and Slovenia. From each preliminary round, teams are selected to attend the finals day
in Oxford, where they compete for one of the most prestigious high schools debate titles. The Wolfert
Bilingual High School is in charge of the Dutch preliminary round, to which you are cordially invited.
The Dutch preliminary round is a high-quality, English-spoken debate tournament in itself, and also
an extraordinary chance to qualify for the finals day in Oxford. You will find an introductory guide to
the British Parliament format attached to this email. 
This academic year, Oxford Schools is held on Sunday February 6 2022. All important
information can be found on our Facebook page (Dutch Oxford Schools), Instagram
(@wolfertdebate), or website (www.oxfordschools.nl). 
You will find the most important information listed below:
·  The tournament takes place on Sunday February 6 2022. Participants have to be in the
Zoom call by 9:30. A link will be sent out to all attendees a week in advance. The
tournament lasts until 18:15. 
·  Before the debate rounds start, judges from Oxford provide an elaborate debate
workshop. There will be two workshops; one for beginners who are unfamiliar with the
debate format, and one for advanced debaters in the British Parliamentary format. In itself,
this workshop is a great opportunity for students to advance their debate skills. 
·  No prepared motions: To keep the tournament as exciting as possible, we only announce
each motion 15 minutes ahead of the round.
·  We guarantee that the level of judges and feedback will be excellent: the Oxford-judges as
well as the Dutch university student debaters judging will all be experienced debaters
themselves. 
·  Students compete for a spot in the finals day in Oxford! 
·  The registration fee amounts to 25 euros per team, each team consisting of two students.
There is no limit to the amount of teams each school can send. 
·  Although all debates and workshops will be held in English, mostly Dutch teams will be
competing. As such, it is not necessary to be a native English speaker and/or follow a
(partially) English-spoken high school curriculum.

Two new prize categories!
Aside from the traditional prize categories, "Top speakers" and "Top teams", we introduce two new
prize categories this year: "Best new team" and "Best junior team". The "Best new team" will be
chosen from all participating teams from schools that were not present at at least one of the past four
editions of Oxford Schools. The "Best junior team" will be chosen from teams from which both
speakers are in grade 9 or lower (international school system) or grade 3 or lower (Dutch high school
system).
