Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing to you to apply for the Graduate Mechanical Engineer – Energy position as advertised on
Gradcracker. The role of Graduate Mechanical Engineer is particularly interesting to me; I am looking
for a position where I can be developed into an engineering leader, I want to take on new
responsibility and face challenges head on which this role offers. Having studied mechanical
engineering for 5 years as well as my industrial experience in Power Generation and Pumping
Systems, I believe I can be a particular asset to your team.
I am impressed by the values given on the Stantec company website, highlighting a people first
attitude, ethical practice and that teamwork is core to the business. Looking past the graduate role it
is evident Stantec employ the graduate cohort into full-time positions, giving me confidence that this
in an opportunity for a long-term career. Stantec are Corporate Knights most sustainable business in
2022 which aligns with my aspirations to be part of a globally caring company.
I have experience in a wide range of engineering industries such as power, automotive, marine,
subsea and defence. My industrial experience within power may be of particular interest to you; for
example, I have worked with generators, motors, pumps, and fans up to 30MW - including wind
turbine generators of which I have project managed stator overhauls. I have liaised with customers
on site, for example at Thetford Power Station for the maintenance and mechanical and electrical
testing of their biomass generator.
I have also studied a wide range of engineering disciplines including renewable energy technologies,
thermo-mechanical conversion systems, and energy management and efficiency. After spending 2
years working in industry, I am now ready to find a career, not a job. This role can help me develop
and become an expert in the Power industry, something that has interested me long term. As an
undergraduate, for my Final Year Project I designed and tested a Carbon Capture and Reduction
device which has since been picked up for practical application in drone technology to improve inner
city air quality, evidencing my alignment with Stantec’s sustainable attitude.
I have the constant drive to become a better professional, I am particularly skilful at problem solving,
and I thrive under pressure. My industrial experience and theoretical knowledge taken from
education has given me key attributes to be successful in this field. I have leadership experience and
I am always excited to progress in my personal development whilst giving my all for my employers. I
have a passion for engineering, and I get real satisfaction from sharing my knowledge, whilst leading
my colleagues to do their best through teamwork and honesty. Additionally, I strive to learn the
most possible from any given opportunity in order to bring more success to myself and the business I
work for.
I would be a particularly valuable asset to your team; I am a dedicated, hardworking individual,
completing my studies to a high level whist simultaneously holding down several jobs. In addition to
all of this, I was privileged to volunteer at a local children’s charity, working with children with
special educational needs – which is why Stantec’s commitment to LandAid sparked an interest for
me.
I would like to reiterate my desire to be part of Stantec. I am confident I can bring the level of
success I had during my previous employment and education to your business. Thank you for taking
the time to consider my application. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours Faithfully,
Aidan Britton
