The Importance of Proper Waste Management

Improper Waste Management became one of the major issues in our Municipality as it
not only threatens the health of the people but as well as the image and reputation of the
Municipality. To aid this problem, people must learn the importance of self-discipline. Also,
people must be educated about proper waste management. Moreover, people must minimize the
use of single-use plastic products.

First and foremost, to be able to aid the problem of Improper Waste Management, people
must first learn how important self-discipline is, because the lack of self-discipline causes people
to do careless actions. Because sometimes even if people know that what they are doing is
wrong, they still do it. For them to learn the importance of self-discipline, they must learn the
effects of their actions. Throwing their waste anywhere can cause a massive problem, it can
cause floods because wastes that are not disposed properly clog drainages. Improper disposal of
waste also causes an unpleasant smell and when there is an unpleasant smell it will attract insects
and rodents that carry bacterias that can be dangerous for the health of the people. The scattered
waste not only affects our health but as well as the image and reputation of our beloved
Municipality because people from other places, outside Roxas, will think that we live in a dirty
place and we lack of self-discipline that will not only put the image of the Roxas in shame but
also the Roxaseños.

Secondly, people must be taught about Proper Waste Management by holding community
seminars and providing information through Social Media. Giving people enough Information
about Proper Waste Management can be a huge help to minimize the wastes that are scattered all
over Roxas, especially in public places like National Highways, Public Market, Schools, and so
on. Upon learning information to solve this problem, people must practice the basics of proper
waste management which are the 3 R's Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. Next, is to encourage
people not only to practice the 3 R's but also to segregate wastes from Biodegradable, Non-
biodegradable, Infectious Wastes, E-wastes, and Recyclables.
 Lastly, minimizing the use of single-use plastic products because it only contributes to
the number of undesired waste that will be thrown in landfills. Not only that the Garbage
Collectors will work extra hard but it will also become a threat to their health. The large amount
of waste that is being thrown at landfills brings hazards like Soil, Water, and Air Contaminations
that can spread various diseases to humans. So we have to find alternatives like using Recyclable
materials like paper bags and eco-bags. Instead of buying cellophane as containers for food and
water, just use food containers and tumblers. Most importantly purchase the things they are only
needed especially right now that Online Shopping is popular because the materials that are used
for the packaging of the parcels are single-use plastics that are often thrown away like the plastic
bags, bubble wraps, and so on.

In conclusion, we need to be responsible for our actions because there will always be
consequences. Especially right now that climate change is becoming more evident. That's why
doing simple Proper Waste Management is Important. Do we have to experience a tragedy or
disaster before we act to solve this big problem in Roxas or ignore it and let our beloved
Municipality, Roxas fall into ruin?
