1. The difference between two positive numbers is 3. If the square of the smaller
number is equal to 4 times the larger number, find the two numbers.

2. . The sides of a rectangle are of lengths (2𝑥 + 1)𝑐𝑚 and (3𝑥 + 1)𝑐𝑚. The area of the
rectangle is 117𝑐𝑚2 . Find 𝑥 and the perimeter of the rectangle.

3. Find two consecutive positive odd numbers such that the sum of their squares is
equal to 130.

4. A mother is now five times as old as her son. Four years ago, the product of their ages was
52.Find their present ages.

5. The product of two consecutive positive integers is 240. Find the two numbers.

1. 12 men can complete a certain job in 8 hours. Suppose all the men work at the same

speed, how long will 18 men take to complete the same job.

2. How many liters of Pepsi can you buy with $60 if 7 liters of Pepsi costs $9.45. Also find the
cost of 23 liters of Pepsi. Give your answer correct to 3 significant digits.

3. If 5kg of tea and 2kg of coffee cost $88 and 2 kg of tea and 4 kg of coffee cost $54,
find the price of 1 kg of tea and 1 kg of coffee.
4. Ten identical pipes can fill a tank in 4 hours. How long will it take 8 of these pipes to fill
the same tank?
5. Find 𝑥 if 36 : 48 = 6 : 𝑥

6. Given that 𝑦 is inversly proportional to 𝑥, and 𝑦 = 3 when 𝑥 = 4


i. Find an equation connecting 𝑥 and 𝑦
