Directions: Listen to the song Mateo Singko by Dong Abay (03 Audio 1) and reflect on its meaning.
Afterward, answer the following questions below. (3 items × 10 points)

1. In your opinion, what does the song imply? Explain why.

a. For me, the song implies on how it is so hard to be poor, born and raise as a poor person
because you feel like everything is so wrong and unfair from the start when you realize
that you are a poor or belong to the poverty line. You can’t do anything because you
lack power to change your destiny where your only hope is to seek guidance to the
mighty God like hoping and praying that he will guide you to the right path in this dark
and cruel world. Moreover, even if your status in life was not like the ones mentioned in
the song, it is still very difficult to find money to support our daily life. In addition, for
me, no matter what is your profession or degree that you finished, every people, even
once in their lifetime, experience the feeling that was portraying in the song except if
they are already born in a rich or elite family (new money). For me, their struggles are so
trivial and dumb, not knowing what the real feeling is of being poor.

2. What do you think is the contemporary issue that reflects the song?
a. I think the contemporary issue that was presented in the song is the social classes and
their struggles which pertains to being in lower class and their struggles are poverty,
lack of education, unemployment, and health. We can hear these to the whole part of
the song especially emphasizing the feeling of being unfortunate in the chorus part of
the song.

3. How can you relate the song to the issues we are currently facing right now?
a. I think I can relate the song to the issue about pandemic because people are struggling
even before the pandemic, but it is much harder and more difficult now that we have to
live with it, even if the rich felt the impact of the pandemic, how about us, the backbone
of this economy, we fought, and struggle really hard compared to the upper class. So, it
got me thinking how the lower class can and still surviving in this pandemic when their
situation is much worse than us in the middle class.
