Positive Values of Filipino Entrepreneurs

I. Summary

1. Pakikipagkapwa tao
A virtue that supports entrepreneurship is pakikipagkapwa tao because it opposes all
forms of exploiting others. Since the goal of entrepreneurship is to help others by
offering them valuable goods and services that raise their level of living, it can be
thought of as a practical translation of one's pakikipagkapwa tao.

2. Bahala na
Filipinos are "malakas ang loob" by nature; they are neither timid or fearful. The truth
is that a lot of us continue with our plans and initiatives even though we are unsure of
how certain events or developments can affect our achievement in the future. We take
on things that, if we were only less strong to accept the risk involved, may have
scared us. When we are unsure of our capacity to do tasks, we say "bahala na" and do
things as best as we can with the belief that "nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa."

3. Pakikipagsapalaran
A coward runs away from the fight even before he is wounded, shows that we as a
people do not consider it honorable to surrender before uncertainty or challenge. In
many situations, especially in the field of making a living, our confidence is justified,
because almost all of us are intelligent and literate enough to read, write, and count.
We are very quick to adjust to new and strange situations.

4. Gaya-gaya
Our capacity of gaya-gaya, or imitations, may also be a sign of our willingness to
learn up new skills and adapt to different ways of doing things. Naturally, as one
advances in their entrepreneurial career, they must become more inventive and
creative in order to improve the quality of their products and services for their target
market.

5. Utang na loob, hiya, awa, bayanihan

Besides to the family, there are other people nearby who can provide crucial support.
The ninong and ninang, kababayan, kumpare, kumare, kaeskwela, katokayo, and
other people can be eager to help us out of pure kindness in exchange for a previous
favor or in anticipation of a time in the future when they will require our help. It
could seem reasonable to assume that they will purchase from us in business. If they
do it on credit, they must pay up or risk losing their good name, losing our business
when we need supplies on consignment, or receiving our business when we need
consulting services.

6. Kasipagan
An important quality of an entrepreneur is industriousness, which is a different value.
We Filipinos are very hardworking especially when it comes to running business, we
never give up on things even sometimes we are tired.

7. Pagtitipid
We also assign a high value on pagtitipid. It is hard to unwisely spend your hard-
earned money. Individuals who save eventually have enough to set their own firm;
and as entrepreneurs, they do not drastically spend on things that do not pay back in
terms of profit.

8. Pagtitiis
Filipinos are considered as people who are persistent and perseverant. When things
get tough, we don't give up easy.

9. Pagtitimpi
Our focus on pagtitimpi is another indication of our determination. At the least
provocation, we do not permit ourselves to express our emotions orally or in any
other way. As soon as "the cup overflows," we prefer to act. Being able to handle
physical or emotional stress is a skill that might be useful in an entrepreneurial
profession because we would be bombarded by unpleasant situations all the time.

10. Katapatan
We dislike taking advantage of people since doing so will make us seem to be
"worthless people." We would rather use “sincerity” or “purity of heart.” Those
qualities are highly helpful in business because exploitative methods are always
ultimately ineffective.

II. Points of Agreement and Disagreement

The role of the entrepreneur is a practical translation of one's "pakikipag-kapwa tao"
because of his work providing things and services that are valuable to others and because by
employing others, he raises their standards of living and improves their lives. It all appears into
how we treat and relate to other people. On the other hand, I've heard it mentioned often that this
is the problem with Filipino entrepreneurs and, by extension, with Philippine business in general.
Rather than seek to explore new ground, we are too often happy with imitating and replicating
other businesses previously perceived as successful. In principle, competition is usually a
positive thing. But throughout the span of our economic history, numerous industries have
collapsed because too many newly established competitors attempted to take market share by
lowering quality in order to reduce costs and undercut existing rather than working to provide a
better product. This creates a gap or wall between the entrepreneurs that has the same concept of
business, might be a reason for Filipino entrepreneurs to fight and break each other close bond
relationship.

bayanihan, kasipagan, pagtitipid, pagtitiis, pagtitimpi, at katapatan are the unique traits or can

very much sincere in things we are engage to, a Filipino entrepreneur, no matter how
successful he has become, never loses sight of why he is striving to make his business thrive
