accountability to protect oneself and others

What I Need to Know

Understand what Human Rights and the accountability are to protect oneself and others.

What Is It

Before we start discussing our topic, let’s try to read and analyze this quotation. What
does this quotation wants to tell us?

Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion against
injustice and lying and greed. If people all over the world…would do this, it would
change the earth.” — William Faulkner-

Definition of Terms:

1. Justice. n. 1) fairness. 2) A scheme or system of law in which every person receives his/
her/it’s due from the system, including all rights, both natural and legal.

is "free" if it can change easily and is not constrained in its present state
3. Equality: is about ensuring that every individual has an equal opportunity to make the
most of their lives and talents.
4. Peace is a concept of societal friendship and harmony in the absence
of hostility and violence. In a social sense, peace is commonly used to mean a lack
of conflict (such as war) and freedom from fear of violence between individuals
or groups.
5. Person (Human being) – is a being that has certain capacities or attributes such as reason,
morality, consciousness or self-consciousness, and being a part of a culturally established
form of social relation such as kinship, ownership of property, or legal responsibility.
6. Dignity: from the Latin word, Dignitas, which means “worthiness”.
7. Human Dignity- Is the recognition that human beings possess a special value intrinsic to

what they can do. In other words, human dignity cannot be earned and cannot be taken

away. It’s an inalienable gift given to us by God, and every other good thing in life depends
on the safeguarding of our fundamental dignity. As the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights puts it, “recognition of the inherent dignity…of all members of the human family is the
foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”

8. Human Dignity. Is the recognition that human beings possess a special value intrinsic to
the humanity and as such are worth of respect simple because they are human beings.
Human Rights are standards that allow all people to live with dignity, freedom, equality, Justice
and peace. Every person has these rights simply because they are human beings. They are
guaranteed to everyone without distinction of any kind. Such as race color, sex, language,
religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.
Human rights are essential to full development of individuals and communities.

Human rights reflect the minimum standards necessary for people to live with dignity. Human
rights give people the freedom to choose how they live, how they express themselves, and what
kind of government they want to support, among many other things. Human rights also
guarantee people the means necessary to satisfy their basic needs, such as food, housing, and
education, so they can take full advantage of all opportunities. Finally, by guaranteeing life,
liberty, equality, and security human rights protect people against abuse by those who are more
powerful

According to the United Nations, Human rights:

“Ensure that a human being will be able to fully develop and use human qualities as
intelligence, talent, and conscience and satisfy his other spiritual and other”

Human right are universal; and Inalienable

Universal: This means that we are all equally entitled to our human rights.

Inalienable: They should not be taken away, except in specific situations and according
to due

Process.

Human rights are indivisible and interdependent: this means that one set of rights cannot
be enjoyed full without other.

Human rights are equal and Non-Discriminatory

All human beings are born free and equal in the dignity and rights

2
