Minutes of the Annual General Meeting 2020/2021

The Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka – Puttalam District Center

Held on Saturday, 03rd April 2021 via Zoom Online

With the participation of around 40 members representing many government and private Institutions, the
meeting commenced with the lighting of the traditional Oil lamp virtually by the dignitaries including Eng.
K.P.I.U. Dharmapala – President, IESL, Dr. Eng. Ranil Shanaka Sugathadasa – CEO, The Motivator, Eng.
Arjuna Manamperi – President Elect, IESL, Eng. Prasad Siriwardana – Chairman, Wayamba Chapter, Eng.
Nalaka Wijekoon – Power Plant Manager, Lakvijaya Power Plant, Eng. Charles Roshantha – Plant
Manager, Plant Manager, INSEE Cement, Puttalam, Eng. P.B.J. Kapukotuwa – Chief Engineer, RDA, Eng.
Kusum Priyananda – Past Chairman, Wayamba Chapter, Eng. Buddhike Dissanayake – Immediate Past
Chairman, Wayamba Chapter and Eng. Padma Gunawardana – Project Director, Anamaduwa Water Supply
Project were invited to light the ceremonial virtual oil lamp. And the national anthem was sung and the
official procedures of the Annual General Meeting began at 9.00AM. Eng. Jude Kurera, chairman of IESL
Puttalam District Center, presided over the AGM. As the chief guest, Eng. K.P.I.U. Dharmapala, President
of IESL, was present. Dr. Eng. Ranil Shanaka Sugathadasa.- also joined as the keynote speaker and a special
guest.
1) Welcome Speech by the Chairman of IESL Puttalam District Center
Eng. Jude Kurera, the Chairman, IESL Puttalam District Center welcomed the officials representing the
IESL HQ and all the IESL members. He appreciated the effort made by executive committee members for
the remarkable contribution done during the last session and stated that it was possible due to the
enthusiastic and energetic engagement from the executives and other members of IESL Puttalam District
Center as well as the support of the members from Wayamba chapter. Furthermore, he encouraged all
members to sustain the same spirit in the upcoming year of the Puttalam District Center.
2) Progress Presentation by the Secretary of IESL Puttalam District Center
Eng. Anosha Silva - past secretary of IESL Puttalam District Center presented a presentation on the progress
and the programs conducted in year 2019/2020 by the IESL Puttalam district Center. In his presentation he
thanked all the members who contributed tirelessly to make all the programs successful.
The Annual General Meeting was then inaugurated by Eng. Jude Kurera, Chairman of the IESL Puttalam
District Center.
3) Adaption of the minutes of previous Annual General Meeting of IESL Puttalm District Center.
Eng. Anosha Silva, Past Secretary of IESL Puttalam Center, presented the minutes of the last Annual
General Meeting, which was held on March 6, 2019 at Anathaya Resort, Chilaw. Because there were no
suggestions or amendments from the members, Eng. Shabry Samoon proposed that the minutes be accurate
and in order, which Eng. Danushka Athukorala seconded.
4) Adaption of Financial Statement of the Last Year.
Eng. Dhanushka Athukorala, the Treasurer of IESL PDC presented the financial statements for the year
2019. Since there wasn’t any opposition from the audience Eng. Akila Rangana proposed the report is in
order and Eng. Sujeewa seconded it.
5) The Election of New Office Bearers for the Term 2019/2020
Following the speech of treasurer of IESL PDC, the existing committee of PDC was dissolved and Eng.
Jude Kurera, once again thanked the executive committee for the support given to lead the IESL Puttalam
District Center throughout the year.
Next it was time to appoint a Pro term chairmen to conduct the AGM of IESL Puttalam District Center.
Eng. Padma Gunawardana proposed and Eng. Anosh Silva seconded the appointment of Eng. Kusum
Priyananda as pro-tem chairman to continue the session until the new Puttalam District Center office bearers
were selected. Following subsequently, Eng. Kusum Priyananda called for nominations for new office
bearers for the 2020/21 fiscal year, and the following name list is the house's pick for the upcoming year.

Immediately after the election of the office bearers, newly appointed Chiarman Eng. Sanjeewa
Priyadarshana took control of the meeting and opened the floor for attendees to propose resolutions, if any.
No resolutions were presented by any of the members.
6) Acceptance speech of the newly appointed Chairman
Firstly, newly appointed Chairman Eng. Sanjeewa Priyadarshana expressed his gratitude to all members
for choosing him as the Chairman of the IESL Puttalam District Center. He also commended the former
executive committee members for their outstanding leadership during the past year. The Annual General
Meeting of the IESL Puttalam District Center was concluded with his address.
7) Speech by the Chief Guest Eng. K.P.I.U. Dharmapala – President, IESL
Eng. K.P.I.U. Dharmapala, President, IESL, pointed out the significance of having District Centers
throughout the country and commended Puttalam District Center, one of the country's oldest district centers,
for its outstanding service for the engineers residing/ working in Puttalam area.
8) Speech by the Keynote speaker Dr. Eng. Ranil Shanaka Sugathadasa – CEO, The Motivator
Keynote speech was titled as “Unleashing Creativity and Innovation” was resourceful for all the engineers
joined the session.
9) Presentation of virtual token of appreciation for the resource persons.

10) Raffle draw – Conducted by Eng. Shabry Samoon.

Raffle draw was conducted virtually. 3rd Prize winner (gifted Rs. 3,000 worth of gift voucher) was Eng.
Nuwan Ihalawatta and 2nd Prize winner (gifted Rs. 5,000 worth of gift voucher) was Eng Pathma
Gunawardana and 1st Prize winner (gifted Rs. 10,000 worth of gift voucher) was Eng. Thanushka Peiris

11) Vote of Thanks by Past Senior Secretary of IESL Puttalam Dsitrict Center, Eng. Anusha Silva
Eng. Anusha Silva thanked the guests and all the members who participated in the AGM. Also, he extended
his gratitude to all the members and especially the committee members who supported to make the event a
success. He extended his appreciation to all the sponsors for their contribution to the occasion and for the
support to organize the event successfully.
Then a musical entertainment event was viewed to entertain the audience. Finally, Annual General Meeting
and the Annual Session of IESL Puttalam District Center was adjourned at 11.10AM with the national
anthem.
