1. An open cylindrical tank contains 1.2 m of salt water (specific gravity= 1.03), 0.8 m of gasoline (specific
gravity = 0.70) and 1.0 m of oil (specific gravity = 0.85). What is the pressure 2.5 m below the liquid
surface.

2. On the ground of a high-rise building, the pressure is 101.13 kPa and the pressure at the roof of the
same structure is 98.99 kPa. Assuming that the specific weight of air is uniform within the elevation from
the ground floor to the roof of the building and has a value of 12 N per cubic meter, determine the
height of the building.

3. A square frame 3 m by 3 m in dimension is submerged in water vertically with its top 3 m from the
surface. If oil (specific gravity = 0.80) occupies the top meter, determine the horizontal pressure acting
on the frame and the depth to its center of pressure.

4. Find the angle the surface tension film leaves the glass for a vertical tube immersed in water
if the diameter is 1 mm and the capillary rise is 13 mm. Surface tension for water is 0.0731 N/m.
5. A certain liquid has an absolute viscosity of 0.000648 N.s/m2 . Compute the shear stress
required to deform this fluid at a strain rate of 4600/sec.
