Job Purpose:
To provide agile software development and support services to the IM&T Department of University
Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

Organisational Chart
To advise and support the team with the delivery of clinical and business systems
and automated process workflow to support both operational activities of University
Hospitals Plymouth HS Trust.
To develop new and existing systems in line with the team’s agreed coding
standards to assure production of a quality product
To advise and support the team with the development of the service to support and
enhance the continual quality initiative ensuring a ‘quality first’ approach to all
aspects of work.
To advise on and support the team with the development of robust operational
processes across the Agile Development team in line with audit requirements.

To ensure that all developments and changes are fully documented and auditable
and change control policies are adhered to.
To keep abreast of technologies and frameworks both new and existing to enable
strategic planning for future developments.
To liaise with external agencies, clinical users, & trust staff as required to support
the Agile Development Team Manager with the development of the service to meet
the needs of its users.
To undertake other duties as designated by the Software Development Team Manager and
Advanced Software Developer.
The post holder will be required to communicate with staff across all levels and
disciplines within the local health care community.
OTHER
Upgrades and maintenance often require working outside of normal working hours.
NHS Administrative and Clinical information systems have been developed using
many disparate technologies imposing an unusually diverse development
environment in which the IT software development team have to work. This
necessitates developers having to maintain knowledge across multiple technology
platforms, a requirement that is unusual in this field of work.
This role has a frequent requirement for intense concentration whilst developing
complex software programs and compiling accurate information reports. The job is
specialised in terms of the technical capabilities of the post holder and well-
developed skills and experience in the following would be considered core
requisites to undertake the role:

Respect the confidentiality of all matters relating to their employment and other members of staff. All
members of staff are required to comply with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998.
Comply with the Corporate Governance structure in keeping with the principles and standards set out
by the Trust.
Comply with the codes of professional conduct set out by the professional body of which registration is
required for the post.
Ensure they are familiar with the Risk Management Framework, follow policies, procedures and safe
systems of work, make known any hazards or risks that they identify and take all necessary actions to
reduce risk.
Ensure the welfare and safety of children within their care. This includes staff who come into contact
with children and families in the course of their work as well as those staff who have a specific role
with children and families.
Ensure they attend Child Protection training at the appropriate level within the specified time frame.
Staff must comply with Safeguarding Policies and Procedures in order to promote
safeguarding and prevent abuse to vulnerable people using Trust services.
Maintain the prevention and control of infection and fully comply with all current Trust Infection Control
policies and procedures.
Take responsibility for any records that they create or use in the course of their duties, in line with the
Public Records Act and be aware that any records created by an employee of the NHS are public
records and may be subject to both legal and professional obligations.
