Good morning class! Previously we have

discuss what genetic engineering is all about. I
just want to know how much you have retained
from our past discussion.

I am going to present a picture and I want you

1. to think of a word which is related to the picture
and our past discussion. Ready ?

Write your answer on the dialogue box below

5. ___________

4. ___________

3. ___________
2.
2. ___________

1. ___________

3.

4.
Who among you here loves to eat grilled or boiled corn? How about apples?
Tomatoes? French fries? Fried chicken? Or loves to drink fresh milk?

I know that most of us really love to eat those foods. But if I am going to allow you
to choose between a big yellow sweet corn and a small white hard corn which would
you choose? How about between a big red crispy apple and a small red apple ?

5.
For this morning we are going to study
how science and technology was able to
come up with big apples, big corn, pest
resistant crops even some medicines and
insulin. Our lesson for today is all about
GMO also known as ?.

____ ___ _____

_________

Engage
Class I have here a picture of a
food product, I want you to
observe and study the picture,
take note of Its’ similarities and
their differences. Corn 1
What do you think is the Corn 2
similarity of this two food
products?
How about the differences

If you were to choose between

the two which would you like for
a snack Corn 2

What do you think is the reason

why corn 1 looks like that ? and The differences are corn 1 is smaller and
what makes corn 2 special? was eaten by insects while corn 2 is
bigger and healthier

The picture shows 2

different types of Corn 1 looks like that because it has
low resistance to pest and low breed
corn
quality

Corn 2 is special
because it could
resist pest and the
cob is healthier
and bigger

You will learn more about

GMO when we perform this
activity.

At the end of this activity you should be able to

1.describe a genetically modified organism?
2. differentiate a GMO from non GMO
2. enumerate the processes involved in creating a
GMO?
3. explain the benefits and risks of a designed GMO.

For this activity you need to have you pen or ball pen .
Study the pictures properly and answer the guide
questions found in your activity sheet.
You will be given 30 minutes to answer this activity. You
may opt to watch the video clip for the extend portion of
this lesson before the conduct of the activity.
Here is the link for the said video clip.

1. Study the picture below . describe the organisms based on their physical appearance. Compare
organism A with organism B

Organism A

Organism B

Organism A Organism B
Chicken

4. Here is a picture of a Genetically Modefied Organism (GMO). Study the picture, take note of the
different characteristics of a GMO and fill up the table below.

GMO Non GMO GMO crops have been increasing

5. Basing on the pictures and concepts that you have come up with, in your own words define what is a
Genetically Modified Organism.

6. Study the process involved in making a Genetically Modified Organism. Discuss how a GMO plant is
achieved?

Take note and answer the following guide question.

1.What is the main purpose of GMO in a fast growing population of the

world?

After doing the activity you have gained concepts of what is genetically modified organisms.
This organisms is not only found in the laboratories, they are now found in our backyards,
markets even in our tables. I want you to study the picture below and check if you have been
consuming this food stuffs.

Check this out, grab a pen and put a check if you have been consuming this stuffs.
